DOES HARTFORD WANT CHANGE?

Tonight will tell the story. Will the Hartfortd Democratic Town Committee vote for change or will it be more of the same old same old. Will DTC members endorse Luke Bronin to bring about change  or will they side with a Mayor who seems to reenforce his incompetence and lack of leadership every day. Many are saying "too little too late for Pedro Segarra who seems to have driven Hartford into a leadership ditch with his decision  making . The baseball stadium is just one example of his missteps, his refusal to hire sufficient Police officers to keep pace with attrition is another. Segarra also has a reputation of surrounding himself with losers, Saundra Kee-Borges jumps to mind as one of Segarra's biggest  losers. Jared Kupiec is another front runner of Segarra's choice of losers.

The DTC will face another test as they select a slate of Council Candidates. Like a junkyard offering a selection of used tires, that is what will most likely be pushed forward. Ken Kennedy and rJoWinch come to mind as useless re-treads ready to hit the road again .Why? Is there no one being mentored by the Democratic establishment to provide leadership to the people of Hartford. Do we really need to settle for the same old hacks?

And I saved the best for last. Judge of Probate. It is somewhat shameful that the position vacated by Judge Robert Killian Jr., a man of integrity and honesty, may be replaced by a corrupt and possibly criminal attorney, Alexander Aponte. If Aponte gets the nod from the DTC, we should probably offer the FBI desk space in the Probate Court so they will be ready to move when Aponte gets going. Aponte is already well versed in Food Stamp Fraud, could fleecing someone's estate be much of a jump? (to learn more about Aponte's history, just type his name in the search bar above and read about his history)

I guess we will see what the DTC thinks about Hartford's future.

FROM HPD AND A LITTLE STREET JUSTICE

On July 21, 2015, at 8:28am, after a 911 call, a Hartford Police Department Traffic Division Officer was traveling north on Franklin Ave. when he was flagged down by an employee of Barranquitas Bakery. Further investigation determined that the accused entered the bakery and attempted to steal a large tip jar filled with cash from the counter. Employees of the bakery confronted the accused and a physical altercation ensued. Based on witness statements, the accused made a motion as if he was removing a weapon from his waistband. One of the employees, who is licensed to carry a firearm, feared that the accused had a weapon, removed his firearm and discharged one round striking the accused in the leg. Witness statements were taken at HPD by the Major Crimes Division. The accused was transported to Hartford Hospital where he was treated and released. Upon release from the hospital, the accused was taken to HPD and charged. The investigation is ongoing.

Accused: Marcus Torres, 36 of Hartford (GSW to leg) 27 Previous Hartford Arrests, Convicted Felon

Charges:

1.       Criminal Attempt Robbery 1st

2.       Assault 3rd
$100,000 Bond           Court Tomorrow
END OF HPD STATEMENT

Maybe after 27 local arrests, Mr. Torres needed to learn a lesson that people are getting tired of being victimized

THANK YOU GOVERNOR MALLOY, SHAME ON YOU MAYOR SEGARRA

What took Mayor Segarra so long? Back in April I posted that Mayor Segarra should be asking Governor Malloy for resources to build the Shooting Task Force back to an effective level to combat what was then  a very noticeable increase in crime. That is exactly what happened this week after our 18th homicide so far this year. And I don't have the benefit of a crystal ball, but common sense or at least some decent advisers should have made Segarra move months earlier. Read my April comments here
http://wethepeoplehartford.blogspot.com/2015/05/time-to-address-few-comments.html

But unfortunately politics are guiding Segarra's actions and because of that , people are being murdered regularly in Hartford's streets. Thank you Pedro Segarra. To ask for help earlier would have been a sign of weakness for Segarra and his baseless claims about the safety of our City. Now that it has reached the crisis point, Segarra has no choice to admit he is incompetent, his plans have failed, and he now needs to crawl begging to the Governor's Office for help.

Governor Malloy never ran to be Mayor of  Hartford, he doesn't want  to be . But he also will not let Hartford fail, no matter who is supposedly leading the City. Governor Malloy does need to ask some tough questions though. Such as why did Segarra leave the consultants report recommending additional hiring and staffing on the shelf, unused.

Why has Segarra ignored attrition in the Department for several years reducing staffing levels to the lowest in decades and contributing to crisis or near crisis levels of manpower. Despite repeated requests by Chief Rovella for additional officer's, Segarra knew better and now we are paying the price. And how are those resources deployed?

At  least one candidate for Mayor has posted some common sense, well thought out ideas for Public Safety. You can read Judge Killian ideashttp://wethepeoplehartford.blogspot.com/2015/06/killian-offers-police-staffing.html here

Below is the cosultant's report on HPD staffing needs

HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM, IAD REPORT ON A RACIST HARTFORD COP

These are the findings and facts from an HPD Internal Investigation into allegations of racism made against a Hartford Police Officer. It is especially disturbing since that officer, Kamil Stachowitz is still wearing the uniform and badge  representing the Hartford Police Department.

The scanning on this document isn't the greatest, but the facts are all there . Upcoming postings will probably be somewhat abbreviated as typing is difficult as I continue my rehab to regain use of my right side after my recent stroke, please bear with me.

MY NEPHEW ANDREW: A LONG OVERDUE UPDATE

If you are a regular reader of this Blog, you have read about my nephew Andrew and his accomplishments overcoming Cerebral Palsy. As I have just started my physical therapy to learn to walkagain, it has given me a much greater understanding of what Andrew faces everyday, just to be able to get around. Andrew's story  is giving me inspiration, instead of letting me feel sorry for myself. If he can ski down a mountain at 80 mile per hour, I can adapt to physical therapy.

Andrew will also be going under surgery Tuesday at Mass. General for a procedure related to his condition. Please keep him in your thoughts  and prayers

Information please

I had a visitor stop in to the hospital today and we were talking about handicap permits. She said that handicap is not an acceptable term any longer it's now preferred "disabled". Then the conversation turned to words and their stigma on people. The Hartford schools were mentioned and they said that there was a Hartford school where under performing students are forced to wear a T-shirt with a large D to signify "Dunce" on the front of it. I am not going to name the specific school until I can verify this but if anybody has knowledge of this please put it in a comment or email me directly thanks.

And if any of our state reps are reading this blog maybe that would be something worthwhile next session to start changing to disabled instead of handicap on different permits and things.
