WILL IT EVER END?
How long will the stench of the Perez Administration continue to linger over our City? I know that is a strongly worded statement, but I think it is a fair question.
Eddie Perez leaves office in disgrace after being convicted of 5 felony counts related to his corruption investigation. He promptly lands a job with a non-profit, the Connecticut AIDS Resource Coalition. The City of Hartford was ,and still is, a major funder of CARC.
Former Corporation Counsel John Rose was terminated by Perez's successor, Mayor Pedro Segarra. Rose promptly lands a job with a law firm, the Crumbie Law Group. Rose paid tens of thousands of City dollars to the Crumbie Law Group during his time as Corporation Counsel for outside legal advice.
And now, Jeff Cohen from WNPR is reporting that Perez's former Chief of Staff Matt Hennessy has landed a deal for a new Hartford Public Schools project that will pay him at least $58,000.00. Hennessy will be working as a lobbyist for a new Journalism and Media Academy project trying to obtain Federal funding for the project.
I'm just wondering what Washington politician would go near any of the players from the Perez Administration? And when is the City Council and the Mayor going to refuse funding to anything or anyone even remotely connected to Perez and his other corrupt players?
You can read Jeff Cohen's report here.
This is beyond outrageous, it points to Hartford's culture of corruption. This town need a political enema!
ReplyDeleteIt is clear that only the truly corrupt are well taken care of in this city. The honest up standing people that contribute to the city seem to only get the shaft as reward to their hard work.
100% Agree Stan. Where is the new Mayor on this? He's the city's top official so why did he allow this and if he just found out what is he going to do about it? I thought he had integrity. Talk is cheap and the people need to know how the Mayor handles this or if he just looks the other way. Don't let this one fall through the cracks Kevin.
ReplyDeleteThe Hartford board of education voted for this nonsense yesterday. The vote went 5 yes-3 no. Three members voted against it because they knew it was financially unfeasible. Do you know who voted no and who voted yes?
ReplyDeleteYes
Miranda
Hudson
McDonald
Richmond
Patterson-Stallings
No
Rodriguez Davila
Cotto
Brad Noel

Not clear; is the guy going to be in-house? But, in any case, has the appearance of a no-show job. Can't the esteemed John Larson handle the duty? We want a Media Academy? Who knew? But, in the scheme of things (a 250,000,000/yr budget), the $58g seems like a bargain. And, hey, come on, it's for the children.
Where is the new Mayor on this?
ReplyDelete-------------------------------------
Where is the State? The board is an agent of the State, not to mention that the State provides the Hartford district with much of its funding. Wouldn't somebody there care about a frivolous $58g expenditure with the appearance of cronyism?
How long will the stench of the Perez Administration continue to linger over our City? I know that is a strongly worded statement, but I think it is a fair question.

Kevin,
I think you did a good job covering Perez. But I think you lost steam after wards. When it comes to Perez you are all fired up. The new mayor has kept most of the old regime intact. Did you criticize him? NO.
Hartford will continue down the road of corruption as long as the voters are manipulated and controlled by the Machine. The change Hartford needs is called Leadership and Governance! The only candidate that is dedicated to that end is me.
ReplyDeleteThe want-a-be candidates that have their fingers in the air to test the winds of their political futures could care less about the good tax paying people of Hartford.
Some will muster up the courage to run for office and will be bankrolled by the same people that buy politicians like cheap one night stands.
Mark my words these candidates will be connected to interested that service to fatten the wallets of Hartford's controlling interests, wither they be black, white, Hispanic, Dem or Republican, corruption knows not party or color, they are all one big happy family each waiting for their turn.
The machine has been playing the good people of this city for to long and now is the time to say no more.
In November 2011 the people of Hartford will have a chance to do something other than complain. They say you deserve the government that you have.
If after the Nov. 2011 election the people put into office extensions of the Machine, then Hartford will have chosen to remain a city doomed to the interest of those that line their pockets at the expense to the people.
The hiring of Matt Hennessey is one more outrageous act among many. Why are those "reformers" that took over the Hartford Democratic Party so silent on every issue beofre us ? Why were they silent on Perez getting a payoff job or about this atrocity?I agree with Stan and others that the City needs an enema from criminals, the corrupt and their enablers.
ReplyDeleteI know that Pedro,Kennedy et al and their aides read this blog every day, so this is directed to them.
ReplyDeleteYou now have Rose,Hennessey and Perez in city funded jobs and you all have said nothing about it nor have taken any action to safeguard the citizens tax money. Dont expect my vote for any of you nor any campaign donations until you all really clean house.
This is to John Green....please consider putting 6 Council candidates forward and a Mayor candidate that will clean house...I think the results could be much as they were for the BOE races last year in which you beat the Democratic Party.
Memo to Shawn Woodin,Ken Green and Stan McCauley.....if you expect to be Mayor then we expect YOU to say something about the continued corruption in Hartford as epitimised by the latest round of jobs for Rose,Hennessey and Perez.
Hello Willie,
ReplyDeleteRef. . "Memo to Shawn Woodin,Ken Green and Stan McCauley.....if you expect to be Mayor then we expect YOU to say something about the continued corruption in Hartford as epitimised by the latest round of jobs for Rose,Hennessey and Perez."
I have spoken out on this and just about everything else as it relates to the corruption in the city of Hartford. I called for a clean sweep with became a candidate for Mayor October 5th 2009. Check out: www.mccauleyformayor.com
I will make you these two and only these two campaign promises -
(1) To make Hartford one of the top 10 small cities in the United States and,
(2) To Clean House! - Those that work and serve at the pleasure of the Mayor most likely will not be supporting my run for Mayor because they know their jobs are on the line. Like wise those that feed off of the city.
Unlike my opponents I put my job and everything else on the line to serve the people of Hartford. I am more than willing to do it again, and again, and again because the people of Hartford deserve better than what they have!
I look forward too what will be an up hill battle, but if those of you that are really tired of the BS are willing to fight the Machine we can and will win.
Not surprising that Miranda voted "yes" as before she was "elected" chairwoman of the BOE, Eddie appointed her to the Board and got her college drop out husband a job with the city for which he did not and still does not qualify. Ever heard of the old boys network? How about quid pro quo?
ReplyDelete(1) To make Hartford one of the top 10 small cities in the United States and...
ReplyDelete-------------------------------------
Just not going to happen.
Great to have ambition, shoot for the stars, etc.... But, I'd settle for holding the line on my property/car taxes. Not that the two are incompatible.
Veronica Airey-Wilson, the city councilwoman charged in connection with the corruption investigation that ensnared former Mayor Eddie Perez, said Thursday she regretted allowing a city contractor to install a granite countertop at her home.
ReplyDelete"My biggest regret is that I guess I'm so open and trusting of everyone and in my choice of selecting someone to do the work in my home," she told Judge Julia D. Dewey at Superior Court in Hartford. "I didn't recognize the flaws."
-----------------------------------
Right. The wicked contractor tricked the naive pol into receiving free work on her house.
I don't care if she gets rehab, "special" or otherwise, but I'd appreciate an apology and a resignation from her, and a finding of fact from the court. If she did nothing wrong, than why does she need to be rehabilitated?
I agree with Peter 100%. But look people of Hartford, there is a culture of corruption in Hartford Politics and if it is going to end it is going to take more than a "I hope someone does something about it" approach.
ReplyDeleteThis type of corruption only stops with a complete clean sweep. It is going to get ugly and dirty. The corrupt political leaders in both parties are one big happy family and they are playing us like fiddles.
When I am Mayor I will bring open transparent governance that is accountable. It is not a lofty notion, it can be done. But rest assured the status quo will do every thing they can to stop it from happening.
The battle for 550 Main is going to be very hard work. It will take all hands on deck. We the people out number the Machine 5 to 1. They will but forth the best and brightest puppet they can find, but remember he will still be just a puppet.
Maybe we are all missing the back story here. I can't recall. Could someone please refresh my memory? Perhaps Segarra "owes" certain council members for having voted him in as council pres which was a guarantee that he would ascend to mayor once the felon mayor stepped down... Now Segarra can't truly clean house as the felon still has friends on council. Am I imagining this or could it be reality based?
ReplyDeleteRae...each Mayor brings their own set of cronys who plunder the city...that is the history in Hartford....
ReplyDeleteBoss Tweed,
ReplyDeleteAs I said when I am Mayor I will bring open transparent governance that is accountable to the people. If we have cronyism style governance then we the people are to blame. We have the most powerful political weapon available, our VOTE!
The elected officials (of which I seek to be one of) work for us -The People. As long as we complain instead of organizing and getting the votes to get these clowns out of office, our elected officials will do what ever they want to do.
It is incumbent upon us that seek to sweep city hall clean to do more than talk. We must support those that are willing to fight to clean up the corruption in Hartford's city hall.
That is why I am running for Mayor and why I need not only your support but the support of everyone that truly wants accountable government in Hartford. Ask me the tough questions and hold me accountable because talk is cheep.
I want your vote and I don't mind working hard to get it. Cleaning up Hartford government means a lot of people putting their money and hands where their mouth is.
Stan,
ReplyDeleteLet's cut the turkey bits, why did you got discontinued from the city?
You be saying transparency alot, please potential future mayor, talk to us. Give us the truu.
