According to an e-mail sent today by Hartford City Clerk John Bazzano, the three Democratic Council candidates being endorsed by the Hartford Republican's have rejected the endorsement. Democratic Treasure candidate Adam Cloud, also rejected the endorsement.
Mayor Pedro Segarra has not rejected the endorsement. According to sources, it may be difficult for Segarra to back out now since he was apparently the "architect" behind the deal with McGarry.
Also word is that Segarra fired all of his campaign staff last week and that most of the campaign's funds have been depleted. The next campaign filings are not due until shortly before the election November 8, 2011. Apparently John Kennelly was nominated to do the "dirty deed" and took the ax to all of Segarra's staff. Maybe extra security should be implemented at the Hartford Public Library now that at least one of Segarra's campaign confidants is back on the street.
Here is Bazzano's e-mail below:

FYI,
Kyle Anderson, Councilman Alex Aponte and Councilman Kenneth Kennedy have declined the endorsement from the Republican Party. Copies of their letter/emails have been hand delivered to your respective offices.

One of Pedro's staffers that loiter's and hangs around at the Library at night, for no apparent discernible reason other then talking to young boys might be looking for a job in Pedro's administration this January in "Youth Services"
ReplyDeleteat least the staffer has a car because some months ago he was loitering around the library at night and tried to convince Pedro's teenage nephew to " take a ride with him"
ReplyDeleteIt sets a terrible tone to have Kennelly do this as his political credibility is compromised by how he behaves. He was sued in 2010 for a paternity action and he entered into a stipulation regarding acknowledging his baby later. On 8/19/11 the mother filed a motion into Court for Support, looking for child support.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it's as much "WE REJECT YOUR SUPPORT." as much as it was "WE ARE SO OBLIVIOUS TO THE CONCEPT OF THE INTERNET AND BLOGS THAT WE HONESTLY THOUGHT WE COULD GET AWAY WITH THIS PATHETIC ATTEMPT TO SILENCE THE WORKING FAMILIES PARTY. OUR BAD."
ReplyDeletePoor Democrats, now they actually have to campaign. Some, please get Kennedy a crash course.
Be that as it may, most of us aren't fooled into thinking that the folks who rejected the cross endorsements wont secretly work for the republicans underground. My suggestion to the WFP and to real Democrats is to assume that Pedro and his allies will do what they can for the Republicans and YOU all do what you can for the WFP.
ReplyDeleteMany feminists, unions folks, minorities,LBGT folks and progressives within the city will tend to shy away from the 3 Democrats who foolishly took this endorsement anyway.
If it wasn't for this blog and Kevin's valiant efforts there wouldn't be any media coverage of Pedro's "handiwork" with he and McGarry orchestrating these cross endorsements.
ReplyDeleteOne would think that at least Jenna Carlesso would have a front pager with the headline " controversy follows mayoral cross endorsements" or Ubinas would be weighing in with something.
The progressives and their base support of unions have been noticably M.I.A. as well.In years past there would be marches and demonstrations over these filthy cross endorsements.
Does anyone care anymore?
Will anyone care if and when Pedro and company move to strip away local labor and civil rights if and when they and their republican allies win the election?
there would be marches and demonstrations over these filthy cross endorsements

Yes, indeed. Those were the good old days when feminists, unions folks, minorities,LBGT folks and progressives would take off their bedroom slippers and march. They didn't complain, grumble or cry. Even when Mike McGarry and the Tea- baggers were turning the hoses on them, they didn't stop, they marched on... But, with this
"filthy cross-endorsement deal" our fine government schools are likely going to fail our minority students and the LBGT parades will no longer be allowed on Park Street.
Marching in the street is complaining, grumbling, and crying. And when people have different viewpoints then you don't be childish and resort to derogatory name calling "teabaggers". Time to grow up and respect that this country allows people of all cultures to FREELY express themselfs.
ReplyDeletederogatory name calling "teabaggers"

I do believe you mistake my intentions, probably because of my clumsy facetiousness. It is I who as a conservative am called the name, even though it is a reference to a creative experiment in the sexual arts of which we Republicans, under the leadership of a noted homophobe, disapprove. I have seen it suggested that the guy who first directed the term at us tea party folks, Anderson Cooper, is himself G, if not B.
But, honestly, what specific issues turn, for better or worse, on the deal between Segarra and McGarry?
