DEMOCRAT VARGAS FILES COMPLAINT AGAINST" REPUBLICAN " SEGARRA

Democratic petitioning candidate for Mayor, Edwin Vargas has made it official. On Friday, through his attorney Robert Ludgin, Vargas began the official complaint process against Segarra's endorsement by Hartford's Republican Town Committee.

Vargas's complaint is attached below and pretty much speaks for itself

  1. Pedro is a shame....an openly gay man who has thrown all his liberal principles and convictions aside to be in bed with Michael McGarry and the teaparty Republicans.

  2. Typical Hartford politics what makes you think anything is going to be done. If Vargas was smart he would attack Pedro's current position with the PD. A report is released stating the command staff is a mess, documents were removed by former employees and other outstanding issues serious issues need to still be addressed. On top of that the PD is just about out of money due to Pedro cutting the ot and special events budget. Vargas has missed the boat this could be his second chance to get aboard.

  3. FOR THE RECORD - Former Hartford Deputy Mayor Robert F. Ludgin, who is seeking the Republican nomination of Congress in the 1st Congressional District, is a registered emocrat. State allows those registered with one party to run as the nominee of another. His party affiliation was unclear ...

I have no problem with enforcement of election rules. Ludgin tried (unsuccessfully, despite clear language)to get the campaign finance laws enforced when Eddie, as non-ceo/weak mayor of city, was getting $1000 donations.
But, frankly, as a non-Dem voter I'd appreciate hearing what Vargas wants to do policy-wise to make Hartford's more efficient, less of an annoyance. Democratic Party rules are being broken? Who cares?

  4. what Vargas wants to do policy-wise to make Hartford's more efficient

    That would be "Hartford's government."

  5. Peter...different rules and statutes apply to different types of races. Ludgin ran for federal office while vargas is running for mayor. You are mixing apples and oranges.

I'm not mixing anything. I don't care about Segarra's endorsement by the Republicans nor about Ludgin's difficulty deciding which party he may belong to for purposes at hand. I happen to think he was perfectly right to complain about Fast Eddie's illegal campaign contributions. But, what I'd really like is if I could tell the difference between Vargas and Segarra on policy matters. I suspect there's not much of a difference, and fact that Vargas so concerned about silly Dem rule doesn't lend credence to his campaign.

  7. Peter I think that there are substantive policy differences between them.Be that as it may,Segarra must give in to part of the Republican agenda in order to have this " coalition" work for him.Time will tell what Segarra will support of the tea party agenda.

  8. doesn't lend credence to his campaign
    -----------------------------------
I think that would be credibility.

What's the Republican agenda that Segarra would have to agree to? What alternative do Republican voters have if he doesn't agree? I continue to believe all the lefty complaints about the cross endorsements about as sensible as whatever it is the Occupy Wall Street complaints about banks.

  9. Peter..here is the very logical analogy...when 2 people marry, they both give something in order to get something. It is the same in politics...this Segarra/Republican coalition is the same in that both parties will have to give in order to get, otherwise there wouldnt be a coalition.

I don't know if an "attack" is warranted, but certainly, as this blog has made clear, there are questions about current cop management that should/could be asked by political candidates, and especially directed at our strong (and highly paid)Mayor. Republican endorsement deal is apparently involves no specific issues.

  11. Does Vargas have an opinion on WFP guys on council? According to Htfd 2000 summary of council doings, Councilman Deutsch proposed the other night that Bank of America be required (by city ordinance) to report any proposed foreclosures to Corporate Counsel. McGarry is, of course, a rich bastard in league with the Zionist bankers throwing people of color and, especially, homosexuals out on the streets.

  12. Peter...since a foreclosure effects city tax revenue,it is a good idea that Councilman Deutsch has.The quicker we get the forclosure information, the quicker the city can make plans on a cash basis with respect to revenue and expenses.

  13. Of course, someone at City Hall could just periodically check the on-line Superior Court docket to see what new foreclosure cases have been commenced in Hartford. You don't need an ordinance for that, just internet access and 15 minutes of training to understand how to effectively use the judicial branch webpage.

  14. ...it is a good idea that Councilman Deutsch has...
    -----------------------------------
Come on, Bruce. Deutsch's idea is preposterous. It applies to, (i.e., seeks to punish) only one bank, and implicitly posits that our city lawyers could somehow facilitate forgiveness of delinquent Hartford loans. Council would be improved, if only marginally, if the Segarra Republicans were to take the three non-Dem seats.

  15. Peter,

I agree with you it is not a good idea and most likely illegal since the Council has no authority over banking regulations and would most likely come under"restriction of trade" if only applied to one entity that a Councilperson may or may not like.

And Peter, there are also a couple of Independent's that are running. Myself as one of those who would most likely make more sense than 2 of the 3 Republican's running. I do think Michael Fryar is worth a shot. And don't paint WFP with such a wide brush, Cynthia Jennings actually seems to make sense and seems like a person capable of independent thought, not what WFP HQ tells her to do

  16. Kevin:
I didn't intend to suggest that the Republicans are the only alternative to the WFP. I will be casting a vote your way.
The WFP stands for social justice. Individual Worker Family partisans may vary the theme, but to the extent the parties stand for things (and, obviously the anti-cross-endorsement guys believe, as do I, that they stand for quite a lot)WFP stands for nonsense.

  17. Deutsch's motive is right, but his proposal is toothless since the city already gets notice when the forclosure papers are filed. If he really wants to effect capitalism he should introduce an ordinance requiring all the financial lending institutions that either have home offices in hartford or do business in hartford and have industrial, commercial and/or residential mortgages 3 months or more in arrears,to provide notice to the tax department of the city.
