Yes that is Hartford Police Chief Daryl K. Roberts in the picture above wearing the fire helmet.
Chief Roberts recently addressed the graduating recruits from the Hartford Fire Department Training Academy.
According to a few people in attendance, Chief Roberts addressed the recruits stating that "inside every police officer is a firefighter waiting to come out". Could this be the beginning of a new career? Is Chief Roberts internal firefighter "coming out"?
Maybe HFD can have Darrel and HPD can have Reggie and 2 mop buckets in trade.
ReplyDeleteWow toast masters at it's best. How imbarrasing.
ReplyDeleteHey, did anyone understand what he just said? Did he just come from the dentist and forget to take the cotton balls out of his mouth, or does he always talk like that.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Daryl is looking to do something new, since his law enforcement career is over and any chance of getting a chiefs job some where else is history. But then again, its not DKR's fault, he's a victim of social promotion, he should never have been the chief in the first place. But that's water under the bridge and now it's too late. Daryl is leaving HPD much worse than when he found it.
ReplyDeleteWow, HPD's fearless leader.....embarassing doesn't even begin to cover this picture or DKR's quote. Was he issued matching velcro shoes to go with that helmet? If all cops really wanted to be firefighters they would have done it, but then again who needs a comfty schedule where the majority of your day is spent eating, sleeping and working out. Can someone please explain why the police chief is speaking at the fire academy graduation in the first place when he couldn't even show up when our officers graduated from academies outside of Hartford's? We can only hope that someone with half an ounce of common sense and intelligence takes over.
ReplyDeleteDoes he wear the appropriate hat at all graduations? A tall chef's hat at the culinary school? A fez at a Shriner's convention? What would happen if he ever met the pope?
ReplyDeleteYou have got to be kidding me, this is why no one will take Hartford seriously. Look at this assclown, a complete disrespect for the uniform he is wearing. It's bad enough he used to wear metal taps on his shoes now a fire helmet, thank god he is gone but not soon enough. How many more embarrassing moments do we have to endure? He should of been told to stay home after the Rudewicz report came out, and save the city any future embarrassment but no one at city hall had the intestinal fortitude to so. A little piece of advice DKR lay low for a while and just maybe, just maybe, you might get hired somewhere else, don't let your ego get in your way, oops too late for that.
ReplyDeleteKevin you should detail what happened at the MARC meeting last Thursday. This will let everyone know who reads the blog how misinformed and how deceptive and dusenginuious the city stool pigeons are. What say you?
ReplyDeleteI feel a little sorry for Daryl. Eddie promoted him for votes. period. He's been in way over his head since day one. Daryl was just trying to be funny by wearing the firemen's helmet; he really doesn't know any better. I wonder if Lester McKrash advised him to put that helmet on? Maybe Bernier should write him up for being out of uniform.
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous 7:13pm - Who is Reggie?

ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me?!?!? Chief Freeman is the best thing that has happened to HFD in a long time! I would say since Dobson retired!! Anyone that has a problem with Freeman probably has been on the job for a while and takes exception with a young guy coming in doing a good job or the person with the beef is on the Command Staff. Chief Casares is confiding in people that he shouldn't talking about Freeman behind his back. More to follow....
Chief Freeman is the newest HFD assistant chief. He may very well be a great man, however he was never a firefighter, and has never been in a fire. He is very big on respect, and yet most of the job has never met him. He has to earn respect, and part of earning it is resecting others also. It's tough to deal with a heavy handed outsider who has never actually "done the job".

ReplyDeleteDude, freeman was a ff-emt in Louisiana before serving our country in Iraq for like 5 years as an officer. He may not have come by your station but the last trick I worked in my old house before I got transferred a few months ago, he came in with Chief Huertas and spoke to us for like an hour or so. He was very open about his career and how he got to where he was at, to include stating that he wished he would have been a ff for a longer period of time than what he was because he missed it. And that is why he works as hard as he does now because he wants to take care of the troops because if not him, who will? Something like that. As far as heavy handed, everyone that has met him such as myself has had the opposite opinion. He is very respectful and humble. I did hear a Deputy got side ways with him on a fireground and freeman called the guy in on his next trick with union representation. Don't know the particulars on that one but the deputy retired two weeks later. State the facts on here dude. Don't make stuff up. The department is doing real good right now. Don't get me wrong, I hate all the changes at once but at least I feel like we have chiefs running the department now instead of the mayor and elected officials.
Wow, you definately drank the third floor cool-aide. Sounds like you haven"t been around too long either. Hope it never happens, but one of his bean-counter directives is going to get someone killed. Look into the alphabet soup after his last name, how much of it is paid for? Don't send a check, lose your "credentials". He is here strictly to pad a nice resume, he does not care about any of us. He will be off to greener pastures in a couple of years. Since your such a big fan of his, maybe you should follow him out the door too!
ReplyDeleteFreeman got sideways with a Deputy Chief after he showed up at a fire scene and addressed the Deputy by his last name only. The Deputy then answered with Freeman's last name only. Reggie didn't take too kindly to not hearing Assistant Chief Freeman. Prime example of him not respecting anybody and demanding respect back. Next time newbie, do your homework before you defend someone.
ReplyDeleteNewbie??? I've been on the job probably longer than you have! Next item of discussion is that I am not defending anyone, just stating what I know. Since when does a Asst chief here on the job have the power to implement directives? That comes from the Chiefs office bud! Quit with the lies already! If youre even on the job and would know anyway. Stop trying to put someone down that you obviously don't know just because the guy came in from the outside an took a job that you may have wanted. That kid is doing his job and deserves a chance. This kind of talk and action is all too familiar here in Hartford. Personal beefs and lies put out in public in order to try to ruin people. And I don't drink other people's koolaid, I make my own, bud.
ReplyDeleteStopping at green lights, no RIT team, and cutting Tac 1's runs down to nothing. All done by Reggie. Nice try.
ReplyDeleteDidn't Chief Casares actually work for Freeman's consulting company before Casares hired him? and all those mail order degrees, I mean on-lime degrees, do they really count?
ReplyDeleteInside HR,
ReplyDeleteCasares worked for Freeman?? What happened there??
word is that Casares worked for Freeman's consulting company for several years.
ReplyDeletethefreemangroupllc.com is the companies website. HR Director Malave is aware of this from what I understand. No disclosure was made by Casares though before he hired Freeman
And the truth is finally coming out, slowly but surely.
ReplyDeleteCome on man, you know damn well that the Asst. Chiefs write everything and Casares just signs it, or his secretary stamps it. It's been that way for years. Another clue your a newbie.
ReplyDelete@ anonymous 8:18 - another lie. Wow, you are really offended that this guy is here aren't you? On to another fact, the stopping at lights, which I agree is stupid, was instituted in 2010...chief freeman came in March of 2011. No RIT? Do you really think the Local would go for that? We still have RIT and will always have RIT. Lastly, Freeman runs Supports Services and has nothing to do with Ops. Nice try.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 7:11- you're special if you think that the Assts draft everything and do what they want without the authorization from the chief. The Chief has to answer the questions and you mean to tell me that the directives are not approved or revised If the chief sees something he doesn't like?? Get out of here! The guy must have hurt your feelings bad! I have some of my GF's maxipads right here if you would like to borrow a few?
ReplyDeleteWow, I give up. Someday you will take off those blinders you are wearing and see whats really going on.
ReplyDeleteWow it looks like Hartford Fire has found the blog let the games begin.
ReplyDeleteNo, HFD found this blog a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteHFD found this blog when Dan Nolan was wrongly fired. This is the one place we can find the truth about HFD and the rest of City Hall. We can also comment without having to worry about getting transferred, or fired as in Dan's case. Great job Kevin, keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteFreeman didn't serve our country in Iraq. He worked as a civilian contractor that hires want to be firefighters that can't get a job anywhere else. They have a history of being lazy, unprofesional and unqualified. You should do some research before you start bragging about something he should be ashamed of.
