Hartford's Fire Chief Edward Casares today announced his retirement effective June 15, 2013. Now is the time to place your bets on who will be the next Chief of the Hartford Fire Department. My gut feeling is that it may be Hartford's newest Deputy Chief, a Deputy Chief position that was never existed and specifically created by the Kee- Borges employment agency for her "significant other".
\It seems to be the Hartford way recently to take care of friends and family at City Hall and only time will tell if this will be another entitlement case at the expense of Hartford's taxpayers.
Best of luck to Chief Casares, look at the bright side, you won't be cornered by the COO anymore asking "You are going to make Terry, right?"
Waller for sure, too bad I don't have enough time to retire. You think SKB messed things up? That will be child's play compared to what Terry will do to HFD!
ReplyDeleteWhat happen to the investigation of the computers removed from city hall the education department and Diggs as part of the federal investigation?
ReplyDeleteHuertas is the man for the job! Earning his way up but by bit like you should. He has been loyal to Hartford and is a great leader!
ReplyDeleteSad to see Chief Casares go, I wish him Good luck and a Happy Retirement.
ReplyDeleteNow my issues are that despite Deputy Chief Waller has a lot of his credentials, and his wife COO SKB on board to push for his promotion. Everyone knows that he will be having the upper hand over DC Huertas, who's been on for many years longer then DC Waller.DC Waller is not the best pick for the position. DC Waller's has made a lot of enemies threw out the years; He has stepped on a lot of the Firefighters toes and has written up basically everyone that has work under his supervision. He has a big ego already. I can only imagine what will happen with him becoming the CHIEF, its a title to big for him to carry. But he has his wife COO SKB that will make sure that he gets his promotion because "he deserves it".
A little off topic, a new decision in the Sheff v O'Neil case is due out soon, tax payers in the suburbs will be burdened with having the criminals who don't want to be in school in Hartford forced into their school system and effect their testing scores, and all the smart Duran kids will be bussed into Hartford to make Kisamoto look good when the test scores are due.
ReplyDeleteSheff V O'Neil has outlived any form of usefulness it had and even then it was a joke, all because of Elizabeth's son Milo couldn't cut the mustard in Hartford. What about all of those other kids who made it and graduated for the Hartford school system and ten went onto college and made something of themselves.Oh that's right Milo flunked out of college. If this is the future then just disband all schools in Htfd. Hip out the thugs and save the taxpayers approx. 250 million a year.
Unless you tell me he has accepted a job somewhere else, the real question Kevin, is why is the current chief leaving a job he will never replace in salary, benefits, etc.?
ReplyDeleteThese things just don't happen - heck we have a problem with otherwise honest retirees wanting to come back to the city trough for more, so why do you think Ed is just riding off into the sunset leaving that salary behind????
Anonymous 3:42PM.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he still has some dignity and self respect left.
First of all my congrats to C/Casares, many don't want to understand, but he did a great job as Chief, and what alot of outsiders don't seem to understand, that when you have worked the years he did, it's time to go because you are overworking your salary anyways. As for the next man in line, rightfully it should be Carlos Huertas, Waller possibly couldn't be the next person in line because he hasn't been Assit.Chief yet, and if they jump Carlos, then there is something wrong with the system, and SKB had something to do with it!
ReplyDeleteI have worked under Chef Casares, I may not hve agreed with all of his choices , but who would have that is life. I wrked with Chief Huertas for many yeas on the line and when you look at the past history of going utside the department to fill the Chiefs job it has failed everytime, just look at Dobson, Parker( who did nothing but collect a paycheck and laugh all the way to the bank)Freeman.
ReplyDeleteThe said thing here is that the Name of Terry Waller is even being brought up for thie Chiefs job. The only good thing is that Sandra is loosing her powers as the COO and rightlyfully so. So Sandra and Terry who really live in East Windsor NOT in HARTFORD check the assessors listing in East Windsor. Wil not hve the influence to give Terry the job.
Chief Huertas deserves the job and should be appointed the searh for a new A/C should not include the name f Terry Waller who can not manage himself , a single Engine company, or district.
Best wishes to Chief Casares
Ed posted atleast 4 of these comments himself as he is a avid "We The People Blogger." The one thing he got right is that Terry doesn't hold a stick up to Carlos. To even have Terry's name mentioned is a farce. Carlos will be controlled by Vinny but even that is better than Terry being Chief of Department. Why is it that Eddie is being allowed to ride off into the sunset without anyone highlighting the facts in the P-Card audit which shows that he paid all of his college tuition (100%) on his city p-card every six months at $1800? I guess because like the email said that he sent to all of us, the Mayor said he was a "loyal supporter and friend." Tuition is one thing but that is not to mention all of the I-tune apps, plane tickets for him and his wife and hotel stays on the city p-card too. Grande Hefe Huertas! Vamatos!
ReplyDeleteCollege tuition paid with PCard!? WHAT the $#%^? Is this true Kevin?

ReplyDeleteIt's obvious that you are not a fan of the Chief, Do you really think that the Chief have the time to read and write on this Blog? If you thought that the Chief was bad, then I hope you are not part of the HFD, cause the next Chief that's line up is Deputy Chief Waller. He's the strongest candidate with his Fiancee COO Borges making waves for him. So sit back and enjoy your time.
Well if we take a look at the situation in the Fire Department: Now that Deputy Chief Casares is retiring ... The City of Hartford should continue the legacy representing minorities in the department for the sake of those they serve. Honoring Lozada, a kid that once lost his life due to a language barrier, the next Deputy Chief Carlos Huertas should be appointed to Casares Job position. On the other hand Huertas due have better experience in the department and he is not in a conflict of interest situation as it is Deputy Chief Terry Waller , the COO fiancée.

ReplyDeleteYes, Deputy Chief Waller has a fan club at City Hall. The main Cheer leader in his club is COO SKB ...It would a shameful move if she appoints her fiancée to this position. She is already uncovered as favoring all her family members , friends and fiancée into administrative positions. This move will place her into deeper waters. She needs to resign as no one feels respect for her anymore. She has killed her credibility with her own actions and she needs out. We don't need a corrupt COO,nor need a corrupt city attorney. Nor we need a Fire Department chief appointed based on favoritism.
Yes it seems that Casares was a respected Deputy Chief by his commitment to his community. Casares was hired after the death of a youngster Julio Lozada's who died in 1979 due to a language barrier by Fire Department staff. After this youngster's death the Fire Department hired Casares Deputy Chief, who kept this victim's picture in his office to remind him why he needed to offer his best to his community. He certainly never forgot this victim and that action talks better than words. It is a great story behind this hero , and the many other Hispanic Firefighters that came with him to work with great commitment. It is sad to see him leave and it will be heartbreaking to see Waller taking his place . Carlos Huertas definitely has better experience to fill the job. On the other hand I do agree that Deputy Chief Waller is involved in a conflict of interest situation that would affect his credibility as a Department Chief. People should be hired based on their capabilities and non on who is their "significant other".
