CAN WE GET A PACKAGE DEAL?

Word was issued from the office of Hartford Fire Chief Carlos Huertas  that he was unable to find any qualified candidates to fill his open Assistant Chief slots from within the HFD. Huertas stated that he would be initiating a nationwide search outside the Department to fill the slots. It seems as a failure on Huertas's part that no one is qualified or was mentored by him to move up, even though there appears to be several qualified people that should be developed to move up from within

Maybe in an effort to be fiscally responsible , we could find a search company that would give us a package deal. Conduct a search for both the Assistant Chief  and a Chief able to properly develop suitable replacements to move up from within.

Its just an idea but I think we deserve  suitable people to fill in and lead the HFD, and I don't think we need to look outside, we just need someone that is capable to lead and develop what we have already. Too much time has been wasted on the games that have already been played for the last year or so.

  1. Three candidates and not one will work, sounds like he is afraid of someone that will beable to do the job and do it well.

  2. Charlie could not find any good candidates? Charlie could not find the back side of his butt with both hands. Lets face it by all accounts the man is a dope. Either that or he is taking advice from the tipsy Lush again. He should have kept Raul up there, but Raul is smart and therefore a threat to simple Charlie.
Not a bad idea with the search package you propose, savings is always good. However, those are our jobs and we have qualified people here. Where is the union on this one, it is our members that should be considered for those jobs. Additionally, must first make sure that all members of the leading families in the city are offered these jobs. That's just how we do things here. Furthermore, if this job is put out to search the great experience of D/C Waller will be lost since he will not go back on the line. Since Nolan tested first I say the job is his. But Charlie is too weak to have a true Celtic warrior in his face on a daily basis. Huertas would quickly soil his shorts.
I can't believe that fool Segarra is letting Huertas drag down the reputation of one of Hartfords greatest institutions in an election year. I would have fired him right after the new year. Things like this can cost people their seats.
Well the HFD continues like a rudderless ship, sailing into the dark night, up Main street, where an ordinary man sits, in a plain car, getting a half and half from a tranny. That's Hartford.

    1. I'll tell you where the union is. That piece of shit Fusco is working overtime at engine 14 today. The overtime started at engine 9. So how did that useless pile of crap get hired. Hint. A crooked deputy in district 1. The union won't do anything. They are as useless as Sevareid and huertas

  3. Maybe we could get Terry Waller to apply under his maiden name also. Oh wait, that would still be Kee-Borges. I guess that fraud won't work, already been done once.

    1. What is Terry's mother's maiden name? Kee-Borges may look like she is Terry's mother but SHE IS NOT.

    2. Terry Waller should become a candidate for mayor. If elected, he should reinstall SKB as corporation counsel (for her talent of course; it doesn't really matter that she's talentless and tasteless).

  4. I know I will take hits for saying this, but any Fire Department anywhere in this country would be lucky to get a Dan Nolan to apply for a leadership role. In Hartford it scares people like Teale, Casares and now Huertas because he is not all about the games but rather about getting the job done and getting it done professionally. Hartford isn't ready for that and until it is, we will be losing the people we should be keeping. You might not like what he has to say, but at least you can count on it being the truth, unlike Huertas who in his own words "sold his soul " to get the Chief's job. What is your soul worth Chief?

Why do you think Casares took the HFD-1 plate off the Chief's Car. So he could conduct his dirty deal and hang out at the Gold Club at lunch time without detection. Shows you how bright these guys that are now being called on by Segarra to turn HFD around. Maybe he should have tried the fake glasses and plastic nose to avoid detection. Never mind the plastic nose might get in the way of his other activities

  6. The HFD is a mess. Every department in city hall is the same. Pedro has caused the fire to burn heavy. There is no stopping Pedro and his gang.

  7. Yes there can be a package deal. Get rid of all the leaders and get some new men/women at the helm.

Anonymous said: People don't get too excited over this, I don't care if it's Huertas, or anyone else that is Chief of the Department, I've worked there too many years to see what has happened in the past, guys get upstairs as Assist.Chief, full of promises and the thing they forget is that you are the Chief's right hand man, someone he can count on, someone he can trust, and that is the kind of person Huertas is looking for, yeah there maybe plenty of people that may qualify for the job, but if you can not be trusted, then you shouldn't be working along side the Chief. It's plain and simple.

  9. Trusted to do what? keep the dirty little secrets and corrupt acts quiet or trusted to do the right thing when needed?

We already know when people of no integrity are thrust into positions of trust , bad things happen. Its called the Segarra Administration

  10. Get Chief Huertas to do the right and credible thing and he wont have to worry about his "right hand man " exposing his dirty deeds

  11. He spend all his time doing what lynch tell him to do. Her new name is car 2. He can't do any thing unless he ask what to do. Then he treats his division heads like dirt. He talk about the chain of command but allows people to email him with lies and prejude and does not listin to the truth. He's like a dog that wags it tail then bites your hand then wants you to play with him( throw the ball) Lynch you may get what you want. No more saying from other people you must like the words not just speak them

  12. Kevin, to answer your question: Trusted to do the right thing, to have integrity, a Chief can not be at 2 or 3 places at one time for example, if he is at a meeting, and needs to be at City Hall (example) then he should be able to count on his A/C to know what he is doing and be there, and not somewhere else, or tell the Chief that he/she will be there and not show up. Being the Chief of the Fire Department is not an easy job, and it's not a one man job either, that is why it is so important to have your A/C's , being an A/C is more then just a title, it's hard work.

  13. I think what you Danny boys are crying about is that Huertas said he can't get the 2 he needs off the list. We all know Terry is done so that means that Danny is out also. You can blame Huertas all you want, but the city has no intention of making him. If they want to clean things up why would they promote someone that they fired.

  14. Huertas is a lousy leader. But take him out of the equation, and should any chief have an AC that they can't trust or have a good rapport with? If Nolan was the Chief and little man waller was highest scorer, would folks expect Nolan to take him as his AC? Unfortunately, hartford has shown that its internal "leadership" is sorely lacking, and as they have risen through the ranks, it's only gotten worse. It's about time they brought some new blood in at the top - outside blood that has no political or internal loyalties.

  15. Oh yea...being Chief or assistant Chief with a bull crap education and zero management skills would be a hard job. You can't polish a turd. Why wouldn't the city hire a couple of people that really went to school for management and had experience with delegation and operational efficiency? Oh that's right, educated, capable employees are the bane of the entrenched Hartford politico.
One thing you never hear on the HFD.. "Oh that Charlie-what a sharp guy". The very fact that he listens to ssu is an indication of his weakness. Taking advice from deeply flawed individuals is a desperate, last ditch move. Ssu is full of it anyway, always has been, just an chronic stiff, nothing more despite her legend in her own mind status. Why cant we do better than these senseless dinosaurs? This is getting embarrassing on a personal level, just working for these inept managers. What is really funny is that we have plenty of highly educated and qualified guys on the HFD...most are junior officers. Upper management does not even know who these guys are or what advanced degrees they hold. In management they refer to this as a human resources failure.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Now Chief Huertas, you should know better, this calling coming from you is absolutely wrong. The HFD has many good candidates that can do the Asst fire chief job. I feel that you are afraid of loosing your position. Why should you use the HFD budget to seek elsewhere when you have many to choose from the pot right here in the department. This shows your poor judgment as the top leader. It is telling us that you are not a good leader and therefore instead of looking for an Asst.you should probably be looking for a Chief as it is obvious that you are lacking leadership skills. Guess you been hanging out with the Mayor for too long. You and the Mayor are a disgrace to the Hispanic community you are given opportunities and you guys don't know what to do. Step up and show them that yes you can do the job.and stop being a follower that's why you ended up with no Asst. The leader should also be a team player. Get with the program or get off the ship. The HFD needs to get their morale back up. They've been thru alot for the last year.and now you come with this, that is a low blow.

  17. Junior Officers with advanced degrees. Part of what's wrong. These guys with their advanced degrees at such an early stage in their careers have been doing more schooling than learning their jobs. We already have enough people that only know what they are doing sitting at a table talking. We need leaders who can lead on the fireground. Those are the type of people who will know how to lead. People who can't do something usually don't make good leaders, especially the higher they go because they have little understanding of the people who actually do the job.

  18. Anonymous said: Huertas not only needs dependable A/C's , but he also needs a overhaul of the Administration Staff and staff that knows what they are doing. By the way, I also worked under C/Stewart years, and if it were not for his Administration staff that was working on the 3rd floor on Pearl St, C/Stewart wouldn't have been chief, he had no idea what the budget was, he didn't even know how to talk in a staff meeting, and best of all it was people like Ms.Sloytas, and Jeff Knotner that wrote his speeches for him when ever he had to speak in public, why because he didn't know how to talk in public or write his speeches, these two people did all of that for him, luckily times and years have passed, now you have people climbing the ladder that are educated, so people out there, don't think that Huertas doesn't know what he is doing...he does.

  19. Of course Huertas thinks he knows what he is doing, he has been around for over 30 years. He knows all about using outdated policy, outdated management style ,outdated racial quotas, outdated fireground tactics, outdated SOPs, outdated forms, and outdated technology. Huertas is also great at obeying outdated politicans!! Heck, he even utilizes the long outdated Captain Lush. Soon, others will realize that this is 2015 and we can all do much better without the guy running the outdated department further into the ground. Maybe this guy really knew what he was doing many years ago. Time for a change.

  20. well he says he can't find any candidates.what is the criteria for the job, is it only D/C's or is he willing to go down to the lowly captains. Might find a whole lot of good candidates right here if he would only look, and open it up to those that may want to help. Might have to give a lower officer a year or so time, but that would be out of the question, be much better to pay for a national search. Dobson was from outside, so was Reggie, only reason Parker was here so long is he hid out of site, kept low and quiet, most of us that witnessed his tenure still don't know what he did if anything.

  21. What ever happened to union votes of no confidence. Well kevin why don't you take a poll right here, start a vote of yes or no confidence in Chief Heurtas. It might give an indication of how the dept. generally feels about him. I will start with a vote on NO. Anybody else want to vote?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Chief you put out a notice this week, let me get this straight if I don't button my chin strap or close the flap on my coat I get a trip to your office , Tiana is AWOL and has not been to see you yet, you are a coward and afraid to handle real problems in your dept. Transfers don't cure the problems, grow some balls and handle the real issues that need to be handled.
Cunningham had to sign a paper that he won't pursue the matter or he would be fired, get real, that is Coercion, and it's illegal. Man gets 25 days off for being attacked by a want to be punk thug. Another man would have forced fed him that helmet, well worth 25 days.
Scotty boy, if you were truly guilty of violence in the work place signing and agreement would not make it better, get a real lawyer and sue both sides of the table for " Quid Pro Quo" threatening your job is illegal.

  23. Anybody else want to vote?

Will Olga tabulate the results of the vote on the motion of no confidence, or does the union provide someone equally expert?
