THEY JUST CAN'T CATCH A BREAK

Word out of HPD this afternoon is that an off duty Hartford Firefighter is under investigation for shooting a home improvement contractor on Hebron Street. Firefighter Donald Brown apparently called 911 this afternoon to report he just shot the contractor in the Blue Hills neighborhood.

There has been no comment from HPD and HFD Captain Helene Lynch seemed stunned when I initially called asking for a comment on the firefighter shooting, She stated she would have to call me back, no response yet.

The case remains under investigation by HPD Major Crimes.

BROWN WORKED AT ENGINE 10 ON FRANKLIN AVENUE UNTIL RECENTLY

HE WAS TRANSFERRED TO ENGINE 14 AT BLUE HILLS/ALBANY AVENUE, BUT HAD NOT REPORTED THERE YET BECAUSE HE IS ON WORKMAN’S COMP

  1. Here we go again, more pressure on Huertas, pressure he just cannot handle.

  2. Hey Chief, can I offer a solution here, dismiss Nolan and promote FF Brown. That's the right way.

  3. Another investigation. ....more paid administrative leave.....how much is that line item in their budget ?

  4. What is going on with these Hartford Firefighters? This picture keeps getting darker and darker. Fire Chief Huertas, Mayor Pedro Seggara and Hartford City Court of Common Council better get their act together right now. Hartford is ready to fall off the cliff.

Probably not large enough the way they use it

  6. Is Hartford and it's mighty fire department just a bunch of fierce people? Another reason no one in their right mind would move and educate their children in Hartford.

  7. HFD still is a mighty fire department. It used to be the spot that anyone aspiring to be a firefighter wanted to end up. Now I would venture to say most volunteer fire departments around Hartford have better leadership and more competent chiefs than those heading HFD

HFD shooting task force, has a good ring to it, maybe the Mayor can call back Former Chief Huertas to chair it.

  9. I believe Donald is a legal gun owner. Let's not jump to conclusions till the facts come out.

  10. The shooting this afternoon took place at 131 Hebron St., which is owned by FF Donald Brown. I believe Donald owns the 3-family house at 45 Dean St., 2-family house at 238 Tower Ave. and most likely the 3-family house at 292 Vine St.
This on its own is a full time job.
How does he have any time left to be a FF?

Legal gun owners shoot people also

  12. Exactly Kevin. That's why I don't know why all the bad comments already without knowing the facts. I also own a firearm and have 2 properties and also a firefighter. We do have days off just like the rest of the world does to do whatever we want with our free time. Shit after a shift of running into burning buildings at anytime of day or middle of night when the rest of the regular world is at sleep I think I deserve to do whatever I want with my free time . whether it be working on my properties or skinny dipping in my pool!!

  13. Today's event with HFD FF shooting a Hartford resident is very serious, but still no word, no comment, no response, nothing from this mayor.
It's not important enough, it's not serious enough for mayor Caviar.

  14. I nominate FF Brown for the shooting task force.

    1. Wyatt Earp, with all the properties FF Brown owns, shouldn't we nominate him as director of housing? How about letting him stay at HFD and appoint him as tge new chief?

  15. The only comment from the Mayor should be " I have finally asked for chief huertas's resignation" any other comment by him on an open Police investigation is not needed

  19. If HPD experienced the same miserable events that occurred over and over again with HFD in the past year, HPD Chief wouldn't have been fired, very likely he would have stepped down himself.
We wouldn't expect Pedro Caviar to dump Huertas, it's too risky for him before or after the elections, but why doesn't Huertas step down himself?

  20. As a 23 year veteran of HPD I can assure you that our department as the same problems as HFD . We just cover it better. Most of our officers don't post information about fellow officers on the blog. What happens in our house stays in our house. The HFD at one time had the same mentality . The problem is that with social media and younger members on both departments info gets leaked out more often for the public to read.

    1. Dear 23 yr. veteran of HPD:
HPD is not perfect, but performs about a thousand times better than HFD with a professional, responsible chief at the helm.

    2. 11:15 it's more like 10,000 better than the totally disfunctional HFD

    3. OK HPD boys and gals don't be so quick to talk and judge. Your department is not perfect. Many of your officers are lazy. You take forever to get to calls and when you do arrive refuse to do the proper paperwork. There are many professional and dedicated officers and detectives that go beyond the call to help Hartford citizens. You also have rotten apples in your department just like we do. I have worked with excellent firefighters and lazy useless ones who refuse to enter burning buildings. I would not badmouth the whole department because it wouldn't be fair. I do agree with you our fire chief is useless and can't keep his word. Yet there are many dedicated firefighters who come to work and perform their duties just like HPD officers who are dedicated to the community.

  25. When is the HFD going to fire these dirtbags this is getting ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Don't you know that you can't fire the dirtbags because they come from the finest families in Hartford. This is how the council wanted it.

  29. FF Brown hasn't worked probably since March of 2014. We need to hear and get more details about it

  30. Anonymous 11:11. Big deal,Mayor touch of class hasn't worked in 5 years.

  31. Pedro DID work in the past 5 years. Made poor decisions on almost everything, spent money like a drunken sailor, made sure he gets a luxury box in the ballpark even if there's no money to build it. He earned for all that 3/4 of million so far.

    ReplyDelete
  32. There will be no demonstration about this one. The only time black people in Hartford get off their butts en masse is to take a shot at whitey or get in line for free stuff. Oh yea..their silly churches too.

    ReplyDelete
  33. FF Brown has spent at least 10, and probably many more, years of his career on Workers Compensation. Nice way to earn a tax free paycheck year in and year out. What's worse is he's not the only one. Nobody's watching the store.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 7:13am let's get the entire story about Brown and his Workers Comp, as well as all the others on Workers Comp in the HFD.
We know the HFD is in trouble, we know the dept. is sick for a long time now.
Does Huertas and Pedro know what's going on? Do they have the REAL facts, the REAL numbers?
Please FOI this data, I'm wondering if it matches theirs.

    ReplyDelete
  35. All these FF's on workers compensation should be verified fairly to make sure there's no abuse. Start investigating Terry Waller, former assistant to the chief.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Terry Waller is getting paid to sit at home. Back pain or something as a result of the car he drove, and wasn't authorized, the car/SUV was for SKB use only, and was totaled as a result of the accident, which took place at night at a time nobody should have driven it.
Did anyone see the police report for that accident? Did anyone see the St Francis ER report after Terry was released? I know it's confidential medical record, but is it still considered confidential when it involves fraud?

    ReplyDelete
  37. What did Charlie do about the Terry Wallergate?

  39. Terry is not the only guy getting paid to do nothing. The list of HFD guys in this situation is a very long list.

  40. Workmens Comp. is perhaps the biggest scam on the HFD. Even bigger than the city personnel office falsely manipulating promotional test scores. Bigger than the nepotism, means hiring your moronic relatives. Bigger than the drinking, drugs, and guns. Yes, bigger story than Nolan. Bigger story than Carlie's intelligence deficit. Folks..workmens comp abuse is a multi million dollar business on the HFD. It has mostly been ignored. If you don't like this cold truth about the HFD just go express your feelings to the EAP rep.--Oh I forgot she has been one of the biggest offenders.

  43. If you want to worry about Workers Comp then look at the files of some of the Officers, including Moree. It'll make you wonder what was being thought when he was promoted. There are quite a few Officers with worse Comp histories than Privates and they just keep moving up the ranks. Must be a theory that if you promote bad Privates they will turn into good Officers.

  49. Anonymous on April 27, 2015 at 3:40 PM,
You are correct regarding bad privates turning to good officers. I believe the Administration refers to that as "F*ck up, Move up". It is a valuable tool that the Chief utilizes when deciding who to promote. The bigger the sh*tbag you are, the quicker you move up. That is why HFD has such a tremendous amount of Workmen's Compensation abuse and fraud. Chief will fight tooth and nail not to release those statistics!
