A NEW POLL, PLEASE VOTE.

The previous poll on the Stadium Authority poll reflected a pretty substantial vote of "no confidence" in the Hartford Stadium Authority, The final vote was 252 negative votes, 166 reflecting "absolutely no confidence " in the authority. 86 voting for their removal and only 16 votes in support of the Stadium Authority.

I. Charles Matthews and the other Authority must have been busy drumming up those 16 positive votes

Since that pooll, I have been asked by many readers to make a poll a regular item on the blog, so here you go:

If the November Mayoral election were held today, would you vote for Luke Bronin?  Simple answers, either YES or NO.

Feel free to elaborate with your answers on this posting here.

  1. Kevin, grow a brain. Make the poll fair and state who he is running against. You know everyone would say no. It is a very unfair question without offering a choice.

  2. Yeah, I'll vote for Pedro, sure. wrong again.Time to come up with a new poll question. It is always to easy to criticize Hartford politicians, but coming up with real life answers to the problems is something else. Not an answer in a perfect world, but an answer(s)that take into account all the committees, politicians who have some say in the game. Just look how difficult Brolin has had with the Budget.Even when He explained the problems look what he got.

  7. Regarding the poll, after six months of Luke Bronin in office, I really wish former Judge Bob Killian was our mayor. The municipality is about to become insolvent soon ie. chapter 11. It is going to be a long three and a half years. Keep up the good work Kevin.

  8. Luke is up by a point to 13. Come on, please vote for Luke. We can make it. Did you know Luke likes to eat chitlins, black-eyed pea, corn bread and cheese & Mac every Sunday noon. He chews on pig's feet when in deep contemplation on how to save money tax payer money.

Please help Luke Bronin win Kevin Brookman's survey. It really means a lot to him.

  11. Why the heck does HPD have no 8.5x11 paper. Why the heck hasnt any of the shredding bins been emptied after they have been filled to capacity with personal and secure information. This city is a complete joke. We have no money in the budget for 8.5x11 paper?!?! People are running around HPD trying to find paper to print out reports and there is none to be found. Gotta love this inept city. Detriot here we come!

The City of Hartford's pols are not to blame for the fundamental problem(s), but only for the silly way they've played their hand these past decades. They have acted as if half the revenue they get to throw around doesn't come from outside, not from those of us they enjoy pushing around. Rather than talking about regionalism and/or getting even more money from the increasingly insolvent Dem State, they should be talking about getting OUT to allow a control board to come in to manage Hartford in a prudent apolitical manner.
    ================================
Hartford's tax rate will stay flat at 74.29 mills.

Council members said Monday that with the budget squared away, they'll turn their attention to the city's long-term financial issues.

"The real work toward tackling our structural deficit begins after this budget is adopted," Councilwoman Glendowlyn Thames said. Projections show that Hartford's budget gaps are set to grow in future years.

Councilman John Gale said the state needs to provide more financial support.

"We're going to need more from the state of Connecticut. We're also going to need more from the region," he said. "You're going to hear the concept of regionalism over and over and over again. It's not going to come easily ... but hopefully we're going to move toward it."

  13. @12:26

I am anything but... A politican will slice and dice, segment, combine separate and blend as needed during a campaign. Bronin went for the black and white vote. Of course he didn't neglect the Latin vote. But he knew that whites would vote for him lacking any other alternative. Black folks might or might not. He had to prove himself especially to the black community, that he was listening. Hence, my pigs feet remark. If he was courting the Italian vote, I would have used pizza or speghetti vote. If Jewish, I would have said lox and bagel vote. Nothing racist about my comment although I did embellish it a bit, lol.

  14. Mr. John Gale: Here's the concept of regionalism: the region pays and Hartford spends, like cazy spends.
Is that you idea of regionalism?

  15. I am so sorry I did not try harder for bob killian to win the democratic nomination = Luke had me fooled - he talked a good game. But as soon as I saw the way he dealt with the council trying to have the state take over the budget negotiations and cutting them out : i knew we were in trouble. It is obvious to me that he is not a team player. And he basically played us about being transparent - he has no idea how to do that. I would think he would come to the public comment meetings at the council for starters. Also he hires people who have no experience and is keeping Darrell Hill and giving him a new position without letting us know why . I am also very disappointed in the way he has handled the promise zone - basically disrespecting the entire north end community . And of course now with the stadium he is out of his league and really doesn't know what he is doing . I see now that Bob Killian had the experience to deal with the mess we are in - I know that no one person can fix things overnight but if Luke didn't go it alone so much we could figure it out together - Instead separate groups are trying to figure out the state house , the skating and so forth - just a shame we can't be inspired to do it together . A leader empowers people - he doesn't try to run the show .
