Why now? Is it maybe because the National Football League has taken a huge hit in their revenues?
Why couldn't they have done this weeks ago, if they really do respect our "Freedoms". The same freedoms that men and women of the military that they show in this video have fought and died for.
"We live in this amazing Country" and "Take a second to realize how lucky we are" are just two of the quotes from NFL Players in this ad, Are they just coming to that reality now?
What do you think? Would these "PSA's" have ever happened if upset American's were not speaking with their wallets as a protest against the NFL players misguided actions?
God bless the USA, God bless our military and God bless our first responders.
Fundamentals for the Foundation of the USA
ReplyDeleteWhy is fox 61 interviewing Foley about the Texas massacre and what should a Hartford cop do if faced with that situation? He is not a psychologist or psychiatrist how can he speak for what is on a officers mind? The local media here is a joke
ReplyDeleteHe is the absolute last person I'd ever get an opinion from. He claims he was some great Detective but talk with the 20yr guys; they'll give you the real deal. Foley is absolute garbage. He is not welcomed back to Hartford once he retires. He's probably worried that's why he is still around.
DeleteHe looked nervous doing the interview as if he knew he wasn't qualified to answer those questions
DeleteHold up Kevin do you even bother to research things before you post them? NFL didn't stsrt with the patriotism till 2009 before then NFL players stayed in the locker room until after the anthem and they were charging the military to promote their services then when it was brought to the attention of the public the NFL gave the money back Paid Patritism and hypocrisy at its finest and Kaep never said he didn't support troops or the flag he took a knee against racial injustice and corrupt police officers so keep spinning the false narrative smh
ReplyDeleteI would have more respect for the protests if they left the anthem alone and found some other way.
ReplyDeleteBut even then, the focus is entirely wrong. Approx. 98% of murders of black citizens are committed by other black citizens. Not the police. A cop is approx. 18 times more likely to be killed by a black perp than an unarmed black man is likely to be killed by a cop. If the protesters had any logic at all, they would be having an entirely different protest. To compound the error, they are killing the league and ultimately their jobs. This is what happens when a powerful union thinks they know how to run their business, and the business owners are too cowardly to assert authority. The stats suggest the NFL has already undergone a permanent 20% loss of revenue. How much more will the NFL tolerate before taking a stand?
Your numbers are way off an black criminals that kill other black citizens didn't take an oath to protect and serve and lastly it's called a protest for a reason protests are not supposed to be comfortable
DeletePretty tough talk from the anonymous about D.C. Foley.
ReplyDeleteBrian is not perfect and I remember him mostly as a patrolman. In that capacity he did fine work and was very active in the
areas where he was assigned. He was a good police officer. Brian also worked hard with Barry Pasqurell in the
Learn to Skate program that instructed hundreds of local Hartford youth in ice hockey when there was almost nothing positive
for kids to do in the winter.
He's a pretty good PIO and explains situations well and he is never anonymous. He puts himself out there in the
public eye everyday cause that is what he is supposed to do.
He's not perfect but does not deserve anonymous bashing.
Anonymity has nothing to do about Foley's character. He has gotten away with murder at HPD and now he's coming across as "Mother Theresa". Please!!!! Save your illustrious speech for the reporters that will be coming to the University of Hartford. Better make sure you have a tight case. Otherwise, the riots will probably be worse than Ferguson and Baltimore.

ReplyDeleteSo enlighten us , if those numbers are wrong, what are the correct numbers?
First of all a cop is far far more likely to be killed by a right wing loon than a black suspect and bjs/fbi stats prove that. In fact most cops die in traffic accidents. Secondly, Kaps protest is about police misconduct kevin and even I knew this. The right-wing and potus are yet again fighting a lame culture war like they do every year around the holidays. Anyday now we'll start hearing talk about a "war on Christmas".
ReplyDeleteWith all this nonsense about the NFL not honoring our country ,LOOK AT US LOSERS IN HARTFORD NOT ABLE TO RAISE $100,000 DOLLARS FOR WHAT WAS THE LARGEST VETERANS PARADE IN NEW ENGLAND!!!! Shame on me for not getting more involved, shame on you Kevin for not utilizing your blog, shame on Luke Bronin for not going around with his “infamous” tin cup for a handout,he had no problem crying crocodile tears to save his beloved Hartford from bankruptcy to the tune of an additional 40 million dollars but can’t do the do the same for our veterans ? Luke, what ever misappropriating you did to go forth with Latino and West Indian celebrations do the same for the vets! Kevin, your new friends Brad Davis and Dan Lovallo on WDRC are spearheading a plan to fix crumbling foundations at $200,000 per house but are ineffective with their microphones in facilitating a solution to honor our vets ,,, ironically Brad Davis takes some credit for founding the parade. And AGAIN OUR LOCAL MEDIA DOES NOT EXPOSE ANOTHER EMBARRASSING BLACKEYE IN HARTFORD! So everyone please keep bitching about the NFL its a great distraction for us locals pissed off about the garbage in our own backyard.
ReplyDelete@5:00 pm
ReplyDeleteAmen brother
Bronin is a vet himself.....smh
Vets must not be part of his perceived political constituency.....ffs
I thought no one cared more about our veterans than Govorner DanWillLie Malloy ,Nancy “stripper heel wearing” Wyman or “DICK” Stolen Valor Blumenthal ! Why didn’t the local media who allows those three stooges to use them for airtime regarding their hard work for the vets question them on their lack of involvement in saving Hartford’s Veteran Parade? Kevin, If you told those 3 birds you were going to dedicate a tomato plant in your garden to CT veterans AND you informed them there were going to be cameras there , those idiots (who lie) would show up! Here’s dirt on all 3 ,,,DanWillLie states CT is first state in the US to end homelessness amongst veterans ,Why are there 7 beds at South Park Shelter in Hartford set aside for “homeless” vets and paid for by CT taxpayers ? DanWillLie gave $500,000 to Nancy Wyman 3years ago to investigate veterans issues and submit a report and solution. Where is the report and fix? Lastly “DICK” Blumenthal put out a television campaign ad where he is sitting on a couch with a mother of 5 who’s military husband committed suicide ,”DICK” was portraying himself as her savior by ,,My friend Herb was the one who provided for this mother prior to and after husbands suicide,,,he also attempted to facilitate the proper mental health treatment for this soldier ,,,thanks to ALL our politicians much needed speedy help is routinely stonewalled due to their incompetence and false perception that they really give a shit about our veterans! As a follow up to that creep “DICK” Blumenthal’s tv ad ,,,he pulled it after ONE phone call from my friend Herb. How ironic is it that if the parade went forward these 3 A$&HOLES would be leading it !!!!!
ReplyDeleteI can’t believe this BS, My heart actually aches.....badly
ReplyDeleteGive it a break. Taking a kneel is not a slight against the flag. It is a way to show muted support while showing a protest against police brutality. Give it a break,
ReplyDeleteHow does kneeling for the national anthem have anything to do with police brutality ? If the NFL wants to protest against police brutality he how about not hiring any cops for their games and see how that works out.
ReplyDelete@9:55
ReplyDeleteIt's not only police brutality. It's also so a failier to find justice in the courts. Give it a break, you're incapable, Kevin, of understanding 400 years of poorest ion, as a Caucasian. But fave no fear. You're not alone. As one, you are in a near majority.
Kneeling was and is done to show that all people are not afforded the same rights and freedoms that the song supposedly represents! But the president and people like you Kevin want to make it about the military to deflect from the real issue.
ReplyDeleteAll the talk of kneeling as a good thing is a big pile of bull. Police Brutality? How about citizen vs. citizen brutality. None of the anonymous knuckleheads ever talk about that.
ReplyDeleteNFL stadiums 1/2 full and the league is hurting because some imbecile football players think they are doing the right thing by protesting.
Instead of giving these characters any credit give them what they deserve. No attention and pretty sure when they ruin the fan base is ruined they can Thank themselves.
Let them protest on their own time not at work.
Man shut up do citizens take an oath or do cops take an oath to protect and serve thank god I never ran into you on the steet it wouldn't of ended well I work a 9-5 and I'm no tough guy but I will defend myself against entitled good ole boys who think they know everything
DeleteThe Anthem we sing is not the full text. We leave out the 2nd verse, part of which reads, "No refuge could save the hireling and slave, from the terror of flight and the gloom of the grave." Now, I'm white as f**k and some of my ancestors were Irish slaves who were tortured, hung, beheaded, and raped (and, no, the Irish did not participate in African slavery in any way EVER). Even so, to cherish a song that says "Pity the n****r slave that runs away because we will kill him" is pretty f**ked up. If you don't think so, then you're the bigger part of the problem, not the players.
ReplyDeleteAs a 10 times daily reader and occasional contributor I kindly ask you to please post the Anthem comment, Mr. Bookman. I am a fan and I think your blog contributes to a necessary dialogue this country desperately needs. My goal of this post is not to divide or take sides, but to point out that because we are human and have opinions we immediately jump to the facts that match our feelings, when the truth is, usually we don't have all the facts. There is a lack of sensitivity on this blog and I'm just trying to add some. And in all due respect, as I read comments on both sides it occurs to me that a little true history, poetry, and literature may be sorely needed by some of the posters...on BOTH sides
ReplyDeleteMr. Creed, I posted a couple comments to Mr. Brookman regarding the Anthem. You may see them as taking your side. Maybe I am. Maybe not. But I will politely ask you to treat Mr. Lyons with the respect he deserves. I have had words on the blog with Mr. Lyons regarding my tenure as a Special Deputy Sheriff while working with some of his former co-officers. It was a misunderstanding. But I remember the 90's well and then-officer-Lyons was a model police officer, active in all of Hartford's communities and siding with 9-5 guys like you. It was a few hot years of gang activity, the state police were in town, and things were ugly. Mr. Lyons never relied on race or socio-economic factors to lay blame for what was happening in Hartford. His straightforwardness brought him respect from the gang members that he eventually helped put away. I served the court for 5 years and the Hartford Fire Department for 13 years. I worked with this man, peripherally, and have the utmost admiration for him. Just as you are entitled to an opinion, so is he. But, goddamnit, he's EARNED his opinion. Please respect it.
