REVIEW OF JUDGE'S ORDER SHOULD INCLUDE A MENTAL COMPETENCY HEARING.....OF THE JUDGE

Yesterday I posted about the escapades of Hartford Superior Court Judge Omar Williams and his Court Order  to return a stolen historical plaque from the Samuel Colt monument in Colt's Park to the thief who stole it off of the statue.

Apparently after the scrutiny of his order, the Honorable Judge Omar Williams has now scheduled another hearing for November 15, 2017 to reconsider or reverse his order. I am not sure why the order can't just be vacated, but I guess we will have to leave that up to the discretion of the good judge.

But in an effort for proper use of Judicial time, maybe Judge Williams could also schedule a Mental Competency hearing for himself and possibly explain how he ever thought this ruling made any sense in the first place. I think that would be a fair question for the Court to answer.

HARTFORD PUBLIC SCHOOLS SCRAMBLING TO FIX A BROKEN SYSTEM

Subsequent to my posting last week about failings in the Hartford School System on dealing with alleged incidents of abuse, the Hartford Schools have once again changed their protocols.I first wrote last week about an incident that appeared to have been handle poorly by the Principal at Mary Hooker School in Hartford.You can read that posting here  http://wethepeoplehartford.blogspot.com/2017/10/why-cant-hartford-board-of-education.html

Now today, the Hartford Schools held an emergency meeting with staff to introduce new protocols for dealing with "employee misconduct", specifically allegations of child abuse and neglect an actually provided a checklist that includes everything from notifying the allegedly abused child's parents to  actually calling the Hartford Police and giving employees the number to call.

I have to wonder why it took another incident involving alleged abuse of a child and a blog posting for the Hartford Superintendent of Schools to finally show some leadership and begin what the Board had promised to do months ago after the  last incident. Furthermore, I have to ask, what are we paying a New York firm $175,000 a year for, who were supposed to be dealing with these issues ?

Well  at least this is a start. Hopefully this time the protocols will be adhered to for the good of the children.

SISSON AVENUE DRUG SEIZURE

FROM HPD:

During the months of September and October, 2017, based on citizen complaints, V&N Detectives initiated an investigation into illegal narcotic sales (Crack Cocaine), from D&D Variety Wireless Smokers Depot, located at 205B Sisson Ave. The investigation led detectives to obtain a search warrant. On 10/25/17, HPD Vice and Narcotics Detectives conducted the warrant execution operation. In total, (1) suspect, a convicted felon, was taken into custody for numerous narcotics related charges, along with possession of ammunition. The warrant operation resulted in the combined seizure of approximately 300 grams Crack Cocaine, 10.1 ounces Marijuana, 106 Viagra Pills, digital scales, narcotics packaging & materials and approximately $ 4800.00 in US currency.

IS JUSTICE BLIND AT GA 14? OR JUST DUMB?

On September 15, 2016, after some great police work, Officer Ghami Perez made an arrest in the vandalism and theft of a historic bronze plaque mounted on a statue in Colt's Park. Officer Perez tracked the stolen bronze plaque, which had been damaged during the theft, to a local scrapyard and the thief was identified.

The suspect, Rafael Sanchez was tracked down by Officer Perez and subsequently arrested. Now comes the stunning part.

Apparently on September 15,2017, Sanchez was found guilty and given a 1 year suspended sentence and placed on 2 years probation. Big deal, the typical slap on the wrist and no consequences for destroying a historical plaque and damaging the monument, not one day in jail. And it gets better.

The guilty verdict was accompanied by a Court Order signed by a Judge Omar Williams ordering HPD to turn the plaque over to the accused thief, Sanchez

Yup, you read that right, give the thief the plaque, to Sanchez. What's next in Judge William's courtroom?  Are we going to start giving stolen cars to the thieves who steal them once they plead guilty instead of the actual owner? Or maybe we can start giving stolen guns back to the shooters, that would make about as much sense as this Order.

I can only hope that this is a clerical mistake by a busy Judge who just didn't take the time to actually read the arrest report and it will be corrected quickly.

Otherwise crime really does pay.

ANOTHER FELON WITH A GUN AND 31 PREVIOUS ARRESTS, MORE DRUGS

FROM HPD:

On Monday 10/23/17 at approximately 9:16pm, HPD officers arrested a suspect in the vicinity of 555 Albany Avenue in possession of a loaded firearm. The suspect was observed showing his firearm in a "bodega" located at 555 Albany Avenue. A witness contacted a retired Hartford Police Officer who called HPD. HPD relayed the information and description to north patrol division officers. The suspect was identified and safely apprehended without incident. HPD Officers recovered a loaded 9mm pistol with 17 rounds of ammunition, 50 small bags of marijuana, and 11 plastic cylinders of marijuana (over 4 ounces).  The firearm was reported stolen under HPD Case# 14-6312. The suspect was taken to 50 Jennings Road and was debriefed by FVRT detectives. Officers were commended for their use of tactics in safely securing the armed suspect.

Arrested- Cory Brown 43yo, Hartford, CT. (Convicted Felon, 31 previous Hartford Arrests)

Charges- Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Pistol without a Permit, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Possession

of a High Capacity Magazine, Possession with intent to Sell Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Marijuana

(over 4 Ounces.)

Firearm- Springfield Armory XDM 9mm with 17 bullets.

Over 4 ounces of marijuana.
