Last August I posted about a Hartford Police Officer who was being accused of stealing lobster from the Stop and Shop store on New Park Avenue. You can read that posting here.
That posting received the most comments ever on the blog and strong feelings were posted about the officers fitness to be a Police Officer based upon her judgement and choices she made. It also evolved to name calling that it was a racial issue. I'm not sure what race had to do with it, since right is right and wrong is wrong . The only color that should have come into it was orange, when she dropped the larceny lobsters into the boiling water.
Sources are telling me that this latest Chapter in HPD scandals may be coming to a close soon. This will come as a relief to many officers who have repeatedly called me asking why she was still allowed to work the streets in a cruiser, covering the District area that the Stop and Shop is in none the less. I guess it is that old saying, innocent until proven guilty.
From what I have have been told, the guilt is about to be proven and the Officer continues to find herself in hot water. For anyone not aware, Stop and Shop has extensive video surveillance and anytime you make a purchase using you Stop and Shop card the purchase can be tracked and is recorded, so if you are scamming your purchases at the self checkout line , consider yourself forewarned.
Also, once those videos are obtained and used as part of a Police investigation they become "public Documents" as detailed under the Connecticut Freedom of Information laws. Now start reading between the lines here and make your own conclusions as to where this is going.
In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act, any blogger could request those videos to post for the public to view. There is an exemption under the FOI laws that might actually prevent the release of those videos if they are part of an investigation that may result in criminal charges. If the videos could be used to prosecute the criminal case, that would prevent their release until an arrest was made. Until an arrest was made that would mean that they would not appear on a blog as public documents.
If there was no arrest, no criminal prosecution and the matter was handled administratively, that would mean the videos would then become public documents and they would be posted here. Hopefully that determination will be coming soon
Mr. Brookman,
ReplyDeleteI see your continued disingenuous attack against this fine african black woman of faith and dignity continues. I assure you that steps are now in place and will move fourth to bring your blog of ''Hate'' to an end. I find it alarming and extremely obtuse that you continue to bash and unleash your hatred, while hiding under your cloak of freedom of speech laws. Soon judgement commith upon such evil and enlightenment will shine high above Hartford!!!
Sincerely,
Mr. Proud Northend African Resident
Aint nuthin gonna happen. She is protected by the guardians, same wit the boot theif. they mad mistakes, just like the white cops do with alcoholism....yeeee
ReplyDeleteMr. Proud Northend Resident,
ReplyDeleteI contemplated not putting your comment through, but quite frankly I am tired of your ignorant comments and it is important for people to see what racism really is. Name one thing in any of my posts that is racist, and please be specific. You my friend are the racist that is willing to overlook this "fine African Black woman's" thefts from the public that entrusted her to be a Police Officer and represent the people of Hartford. Would you be giving a free pass to a white male police officer. Probably not. And as far as faith and dignity, I think most faiths go by a set of rules handed down to Moses, and if I remember correctly one of the rules was "thou shalt not steal". And as far as dignity, we'll see how that goes when the videos and the evidence actually become public for eberyone to make their own decision. You should be holding everyone to the same standards , not just those that don't look like you.
You should be directing your racist remarks towards Officer Guthrie. Rather than using her position to be a role model and mentor in her community she instead used her position to be a thief, allegedly. There are many fine people in the City of Hartford that work 2 or 3 jobs to put food on their tables legally and they don't steal it from Stop and Shop. She let "your" community down, I just exposed it.
Anonymous 3:01pm learn how to spell you racist sissy If the department had anything on Gunthrie or the alledged boot thief they would of used it by now just like white cops destroying evidence and watching people masturbate an stalk children at walmart Kevin Brookman I understand you had the audacity to show your face at Richie Rodrgiguez funeral man you got some nerve after all the negative things you said about your time is coming your racism and throwing fuel on fire will come to an end soon enough
ReplyDeleteMarcus,
ReplyDeleteget your facts straight, I was at the wake, not the funeral
Hey Marcus Garvey,
ReplyDeleteAgain, you ramble on with incorrect facts. the lobster day is ocming down soon, along with the boot thief. But just to prove to you im not a racist, there are plenty of white/ spanish officers that have f**** up.... Luna, Gory, thody, collins, and occonnor..
Lobster-Gate will be ending very very very soon. I hope marcus garvey puts together a fund raiser for her. But im sure no fault is on her for attempted larceny..its on the computer system at stop n steal.....
ReplyDeleteso if you destroy evidence linked to a murder scene, you get a slap on the wrist????? really.. the bar is low. Im sure if the media had run the story earlier, the officer would not have been treated special. who cares bout lobsters, I think destroying murder scene evidence is way worse. And that officer should not be working in the same area...kinda like how mini-me/ lord farqua cant go north of capitol ave....
ReplyDeleteMr. Brookman I wish you would speak to the Officers in question and get their side of the story.I feel that this post is a personal attack on officer Gunthrie. She messed up but there are other Officers that done far worse that don't make this blog. I along with Officer Agostino and Gunthrie have been handed our punishments so why keep discussing it? Let us get on on with our lives. I'm sick of all the cowards that post on this blog bashing and kicking their co workers when their down. I have to say Chief Rovella is a fair man and he spoke to me man to man and i accepted my fate. So in the future Mr. Brookman if you want to know anything about me just call me or come see me. For the record aside from police work I play basketball, chess (which I'm very good at not bragging) and boxing. Respectfully Ofc. William R Smith
ReplyDeleteRemember the good old days...when Officer William Smith was only "just having been punished" instead of "currently under investigation"? The more things change, the more they stay the same.
