  3. Deacon,

What are you doing or what have you done to help recruitment efforts?

  4. Let's also discuss how Marilynn Cruz-Aponte is already using her director role to ensure the hire of her friend from Human Resources for the Senior Administrative position.

  5. If Mayor Bronin wants to hear Hartford residents HONEST opinion, then Chief Rovella should NOT attend this town hall meeting.

  10. Let's talking about Marilynn Cruz-Aponte already using her director poistion to ensure the hire of Mrs. Perez from Human Resources for the upcoming position of Senior Administrative Assistant. Everyone should get a fair chance.

  12. Because there are requirements and qualifications to be a firefighter or police officer. You can't just tell people you're a cop or firefighter and then it just happens.

    Unlike... say.... becoming a deacon.

  15. let me tell you how to improve public safety. get the officers out of the cruisers, make sure they walk around, not just driving up and down streets. also, see if you can get them to stop texting and using their phones all day long so they can pay some attention to the city and its people.

  16. Trust me we want to enforce the laws. The minute we do something the community comes to the lobby and files a complaint against us. When a supervisor asks what did u do today the easy response is did you have any complaints filed against us today. When he says no I guess it was a good day. We take all the calls handed to us on a daily basis but that a out it. Years ago we were told you weren't doing your job unless you had complaints filed against you which makes a lot of sense. To many complaints means no promotion because your labeled a problem child. I encourage any one who reads this blog to check out utube videos labeled capt. Higgins he has the support of his community. If u back us we will back you. It goes both ways.

Well said. That goes both ways though, the use of body cameras would drastically reduce those complaints if the complainers now realize the entire interaction is recorded, and making a false statement would apply. I think it would really make people think twice about the frivolous complaints, as well as officers who might think twice, even how they speak to people and what they say knowing it is all being recorded. I am not sure why some inside HPD are fighting against their use, especially claiming they want to be paid more to wear them.

How much more did HPD Officers get paid when the technology was available to start carrying portable radios years ago? The technology is available now and we should be using it, if for no other reason than protecting our officers from false complaints while also protecting the community.

Just wait until the vehicle locators get turned on in all the vehicles, that should be done immediately for Officer safety. They are already installed, just not being used

  18. And just another thought. I am not sure why commenters don't think Chief Rovella shouldn't be there at the meeting. Have you ever taken the time to talk to him? Do you think you will be targeted for a SWAT team visit if you speak out?

The only way for the Chief to know what you are thinking is to hear it, to talk behind his back is not productive.

I talk to the Chief regularly, sometimes I still wonder why he answers my calls. Our conversations are not always pleasant with me telling him what he wants to hear. I speak openly with him and tell him what's on my mind. I know other people that do as well. Mayor Bronin isn't always going to be right, Chief Rovella isn't always right, and I am certainly not always right. What makes me believe Chief Rovella is the right person to lead HPD is that he listens. He has actually called me the following day after we had tough conversations to tell me he heard what I had to say and he was reconsidering his position. I don't get everything I ask for, but all any of us can ask for and expect is an honest , respectful, dialogue

That is what adults do, and I always treat Chief Rovella with the respect he deserves and I don't think anyone in the community or even within his department can say they have received anything less than respect from our Chief.

To not invite the Chief to a Community Forum on Public Safety is not only disrespectful but counter-productive. We all need to grow up and say what is on our minds.

    1. Very simple, Kevin. If you want the public to sopeak honestly and freely, then chief Rovella and his deputies and lieutenants should not be there.

    2. How dumb is that now. Maybe wear a mask / costume at the meeting so you don't have to reveal your identity.

  19. Most officers can pretty much say they have never met the man in charge imcluding me. Many officer do great things in the community but are never rewarded for those great things. The rewards always go for the big arrest. Not the officer that really cares for the community and shows compassion.it funny in more of the older black folks will stop and talk with you and tell you about policing down south. They all say the same thing that the officers here are great and show great restraint in what they do. They further state that if the children talked to the cops down south the same way they talk to officers on hartford they would have their added woop and brought hope for another ass woopen. Dunning how things can change. I would also like to see the parents more involved it would help me do my jod easier. Last but not least please take your kids off the street at night we are forever getting call of large groups of kids fighting and unattended. We arrive and start to dispute the fighting

  20. What are you afraid of him hearing? why the secrecy?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Nothing to be afraid of. No secrecy at all. Just make it easy for Hartford residents to say whatever is on their minds.

  22. Will Pedro "I Need To Get Some Rest" Segarra attend this town hall meeting? Pedro can be very useful on how not to manage a city, resulting in public non safety..
