The Hartford City Council is expected to go into executive session tonight to vote on a proposed settlement in the Robert Murtha case.
Murtha was a Hartford Police officer who was involved in an on-duty shooting in 2003. That shooting resulted in his arrest on criminal charges. Murtha was eventually exonerated by a jury and cleared of the charges.
Even after being exonerated, the City of Hartford refused to hire him back, a decision that has resulted in prolonged litigation and expense to the City's taxpayers.
Former Corporation John Rose had recommended to the Council in 2009 that they settle the case, the Council rejected Rose's advice and continued to fight against returning Murtha to work.
Several sources are advising me that tonight's settlement will most likely include returning Murtha to work as a Hartford Police office as well as a payment in excess of $1,000,000,000.
Here is Rose's letter to the Council from 2009:
Rose Settlement Letter to Council
Councilman Ken Kennedy and his then key advisor Nick Carbone politiced the Council to refuse the settlement in 2009....now in 2011 we well be settling for about double what we could have in 2009....thanks ken and nick..!
ReplyDeleteOnce again a fine example of Hartford's leadership.
ReplyDeleteJohn Rose: "settle, we are going to lose this one"
Councilman Kennedy: "we are not going to settle, I know more than John Rose"
End result, now we will settle and pay all the interest that accrued as well over the years.
Proven results from Ken Kennedy, I think not
As unfortunate as this situation is, I am pretty confident the council will be able to settle the case for less then one billion dollars!!!
ReplyDeleteummm, I should hope it will be less than $1 billion. $1 million though is more like it
ReplyDeletewhat time tonight will we find out? Murtha is a good guy
ReplyDeleteThis is another fine example of how inept our city council and HPD Command Staff is. Rob could've been back to work years ago! Instead they left him to languish and wonder what he did wrong. He was acquitted by a jury of his peers and still had to deal with the "kangaroo courts" at 550&50. I'm sure his attorney(s) will also mention in is civil suit that he has also missed several promotional examinations which only should add to the amount of pain and suffering pay he should receive. How can they make him whole? His career opportunities have been limited due to the fact that he is behind his contemporaries because of his excessively long, undue absence from his career. The financial flood gates are now starting to open as was mentioned in earlier posts here about the same sorry ass city council and command staff (Daryl). So far you got Secore, Thody is up next and now Murtha. There's more coming guaranteed. How many more recruits are going to be laid off before they get started to pay these guys off and the others that are pending (Campbell +)? Pedro needs to wake up and cut his losses. The sh*t is 'bout to get thick.
ReplyDeleteI guess City Hall and corporate council enjoy looking like fools. I guess they figure that the money is not their's ....People might think poorly of 'good ole Lester' but he took the city for quite an expensive ride, and i bet that he also has a tasty pension....
ReplyDeleteGotta Giv Lester ''billy dee Williams" McCoy credit....
Corporate council is a joke. Plain and simple.
