I guess I can't get over my state of confusion.
I was in Glastonbury Center this morning and saw a community that is growing and bustling.
The new Five Guys Restaurant was packed. As I drove further South I noticed a lot of new Construction ( usually a good sign of Economic Development). Just about every store and restaurant was busy. Even the Hardware store looked busy. I didn't see any big signs announcing "Store for Rent" like I do on Pratt Street or Park Street , Albany Avenue or throughout Downtown Hartford.
But as I hard as I looked , I couldn't find a baseball stadium. I tried and tried, but no stadium. I had to keep asking myself how Glastonbury can do it without a baseball stadium. I kept having to ask myself what was Glastonbury's "spark"
After all , we are being told by Segarra and his Economic Guru Deller that the baseball stadium is going to be the "spark" that sets us free from the burdens of poverty, crime and poor planning and poor government. Just believe in them and their plan.
I really wanted to stop and tell some of these business owners in Glastonbury they were crazy investing because all of their efforts would be futile. They have no baseball stadium. They have no "spark"
Maybe they might have some common sense leadership and people that understand that good government and common sense "spark " development, not baseball stadiums.
Maybe it's all coming down to lower taxes. The mill rate in Glastonbury is just a little over 35. The mill rate in Hartford is just a little over 74. More than double Glastonbury...
ReplyDeleteClearly you get it, why can't we get the council and mayor to understand? Increased debt and higher taxes do not spur economic development
ReplyDeleteGlastonbury has always been a busy town...and maybe it could be because the taxes are lower, or could it be that the Town of Glastonbury doesn't have crooks running the town, or maybe they have a group of people running the Town that understands, don't spend on what you don't have.
ReplyDeletejust wondering: does the mayor of Glastonbury eat caviar with friends on city dime?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anonymous 9:23 PM, lower taxes, honesty and competence gets Glastonbury in the right direction.
ReplyDeletelet's see who're the individuals running Hartford: Pedro, Wooden, Kee Borges, Deller, not to forget Charlie Ortiz (no title, he doesn't need one). we'll never be as successful as Glastonbury with these individuals.
ReplyDeleteThe Anonymous 8:45 AM. You meant to say the individuals "ruining hartford". Not running Hartford.
ReplyDeleteRUINing Hartford is definitely more correct. Pedro Caviar Segarra = Hartford's Shame.
ReplyDeleteTo the Anonymous at 8:45AM: Charlie O. is the one running the show/ruining the city on behalf of the Caviar Man. He dictates and decides on many issues concerning Hartford. He's also proud of it. Whose decision was it to separate Panagore and Kupiec, pushing the first one out the door, the second a few months later. What was SKB role in all that? Always go and look at Charlie, that's Charlie Ortiz for you. The Caviar Man, that liar, is clueless and a big, big liar.
ReplyDeleteLike any other surrounding town, and I'm sure they do it, the City of Hartford needs to learn how to balance a"check book", other towns and Cities do it, and many in their own homes do it, they (the City) just have to learn that you can't spend what you don't have.
ReplyDeleteCould it be because people in Glastonbury have the income to support those businesses? There simply aren't enough people with enough money in Hartford to create those jobs. The stadium will 1) provide Hartford residents with jobs that will support the local economy and 2) attract those people from the suburbs who already have money to spend in Hartford.
ReplyDelete1.these jobs are going to be temporary, low paying jobs.
ReplyDelete2. those people from the suburbs will come, spend little or nothing here, and then leave.
Councilman Larry Deutsch calked this stadium a 'gamble'. I couldn't agree more. The taxpayers will have to pay for this 'gamble', year after year. With already ultra high taxes in Hartford, this will deter businesses, large and small, from coming to Hartford. With the high default rate on tax collection in Hartford - not to mention the many of those who do pay taxes are already struggling to pay these taxes - the default rate will be even higher. Guess what happens next.
ReplyDeleteHartford needs two things to happen. It needs to create an atmosphere that attracts people in the afterwork and weekend hours, and then it needs the surrounding suburbanites to participate. Parking is already free during those off-peak hours, yet no one from Glastonbury or any other suburb goes into the city. In order to attract consumers the city must build the atmosphere. A stadium, a hockey team, quarterly festivals, something. Do you have a better idea?
ReplyDeleteAccording to internal info the de dios dud at the mayor's office is bitching and crying to pedrito about da folks at Eco Dev.
ReplyDeletePuerto por que?
You get what you vote for:
ReplyDeleteUnqualified fools at 550 and no one cares except for the few real taxpayers. The rest of the city voters just vote for whoever the fools at 550 tell them to
Every year on st Patrick parade day,25 to 30 thousand come into the city, watch the parade and go back to their communities to finish celebrating. When the ball game is over, those suburbanites are gonna do the same thing! For those thinking of a windfall,i would recommend that you not invest in anything more than purchasing a hot dog cart.
ReplyDeleteSo long tracey green. The city workers comp employees can rest easy tonite knowing that the queen is gone. Tracey green showed me that fear and color is all you need to manipulate the system and bleed a city dry. There were several over the years that tried to take on the queen ....... But they all failed !!!! Cicero sent her home with no ot ... And when rovella was confronted with the queen, he made her his freaking secretary !!!!! So long tracey.

Welcome to Jodete reality, let your FKU profound paranoid factor eat u a live nenes.
DEller and Pedro the culos, got rid of Yasha @ Housing and moving to other places... Todo is still out there................remember El........
ReplyDeleteThey have a police department that actually arrest real criminals. Not like HPD who set up DUI check points near downtown Hartford businesses on a Thursday night to drive away business from Hartford mean while one mile north and south there are open drug deals on corners going on while 10 traffic division officers harassed the actual tax payers that drive by there DUI check point that pay for there salaries. Did I mention HPD also puts up traffic barriers all around downtown Hartford night clubs 2 hours before the clubs and bars close. How the hell are people suppose to accessed those businesses. The only area Hartford Police has not put traffic barriers is Front street bars YET!!! I garantee soon in the future they will also . That's why the Allyn st. And Union pl area is a ghost town. The Front St. Seems to be more alive. HPD should travel to downtown Springfield on a weekend night especially during the summer all streets are open without those stupid traffic barriers so people can actually drive in and support local downtown businesses and not have to park 4 blocks away because HPD is to lazy to keep streets open to the public after midnight.
ReplyDeleteGlastonbury, a town with great people. Hartford, a city with great people as well... Just more violence. I'm 21 years old. I see the different between Hartford and Glastonbury, why can't you?
ReplyDeleteHartford is boring. Lets be honest here. The ballpark is a great idea and essential to our city. It will open up new job oppurtunities and people my age will have something more to do than just the average night clud/bar.
The ballpark will have great success and will increase revenue.
You guys really need to get real. The City of Hartford needs more entertainment and this might be a great way to distract people.
