Take a look at the mandatory filings that were required to be submitted by Friday for Mayoral candidates. One look will tell you why Hartford is the financial mess that it is.
The long shot candidate, Working Family Party Councilman Joel Cruz claims that he has raised
$4800.00 so far, of which he has spent all but $150.00. He also claims expenses in excess of $9800.00 It kind of sounds like the way the Hartford City Budget is run, where expenses far exceed income.
Good job Councilman Cruz, keep it up and I am sure there will be a spot waiting for you on Hartford's Management and Budget Committee
Here is a link to Steve Goode's story in the Courant.
The itemized filings from each candidate will be posted here later in the week and you will be able to see for yourself where the support is coming from
Who in their right mind would vote for Cruz? He was never even elected to the Hartford City Council, he was appointed to fill an open term, What is his experience? He can't even manage $4800 in campaign donations, never mind giving him a half a billion dollar budget as Mayor
ReplyDeleteWho in their right mind would vote for Cruz?
DeleteWho in their right mind would vote "Pedro"? A vote for "Pedro" is a vote for more scandal after scandal after scandal.
Joel Cruz as mayor would be even worse than what we have now in taxpayer funded caviar loving Pedro.
DeleteWhat else do you want from Joel Cruz? Balance what? A budget? Are you nuts? That's the guy who wasn't sure if he was going to vote for that stadium just hours before the vote, then said yes to spending tens of millions of our hard earned money.
ReplyDeleteAn open letter to Joel Cruz Jr.:
ReplyDeleteThank you for your service in the US Marine Corps.
However, you are an embarrassment to the WF, starting with your vote of support to bring those street goats/yard goats or whatever they call themselves, at a huge cost to Hartford taxpayers.
Now it looks like you don't even know how to balance a $5,000 budget. Now Joel, that's another big embarrassment. Try not to make a foul of yourself.
Joel Cruz, he's just a member in some unimportant nonprofit organizations, he has absolutely no knowledge in business or finance, just leave this poor guy alone.
ReplyDelete9:19pm anonymous:
ReplyDeleteJoel Cruz is not only a member of many nonprofits, religious and non religious organizations, but he's also a member of for big profit organization:
Hartford City Council
Cruz made a mistake announcing he's a candidate for mayor of Hartford. Instead, he's running for mayor of Exeter street in Hartford. $4,800 is more than enough for that campaign. As for the expenses in excess of $9,800, well, Cruz will solve it somehow in the future, like the ballpark, you know, we'll pay for it somehow in the future.
ReplyDeleteRobert Killian retired Friday as Hartford's probate judge and then announced that he, too, will run for mayor.

Today a politician's raising money per se is supposed to impress, just as a politician's winning elections. I personally gave a couple of bucks to a candidate who is not Pedro Segarra, but my man John Gale hasn't actually spent any money. Campaigns in Hartford shouldn't cost much money. It's inexpensive to think about the city's history and situation, and articulate a proposed public policy.
I am told by a neighbor who is a prospective Hillary Klinton voter that a.)she's as honest as any other pol, and b.) honesty isn't that important an attribute in a public servant. Actually, both here and in the nation at large we desperately need patriotic leadership that is both intellectually honest and (it should go without saying) honest in conducting public affairs. How about Minnie Gonzales for Mayor?
You cant be serious? Minnie Gonzalez is a complete misfit and sorry excuse for a state representative. Maybe it her lack of command of the English language, but she makes no sense when she comments at Judiciary Committee hearings or in the well of the House in Hartford. She alone caused the failure of 45 bills to pass committee this session for an email that made no sense. She needs to go at the next election
DeleteIt could work well for me, Minnie G. as Governor of the State of Connecticut, not a mayor. Her son and daughter will fit perfectly as Lieutenants to the Governor, if they're not in jail, of course.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea, Minnie Me as Governor, never thought of this. Her daughter as Lieutenant (she's now getting her experience at Segarra's office) is perfect, but her son should be a justice in the supreme court (he has got great experience in jail).
ReplyDeleteAnd Minnie's husband can run the prostitution stings for HPD since he was caught once already he knows how they do it
ReplyDeleteMinnie, her husband, her son and her daughter. One big happy family!
ReplyDeleteIsn't the Pope Park Recreation Center named after her gangbanger Son? She has her nerve calling anyone out on anything.
ReplyDeleteIs Tom Cruz or Joel Cruz still in the race? Take him to Mohegan Sun for another race, maybe he wants to participate in The Amazing race.
ReplyDelete8:57 am: Good observation. Cruz most likely entered the wrong race. The winner who becomes mayor in one race will make $600,000 in 4 years. The winner in the other race will make $1,000,000 immediately after the race.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter if Joel Cruz participates in this race or the other race. He's useless, clueless and worthless. Let Joel sit at Pedro Caviar's luxury suit, after all he voted for that package - building a stadium with Pedro's suit in a penny less/broke city. Joel, we're not disappointed, we're glad to confirm that you're just a stupid idiot.
ReplyDeleteWhy are you people wasting your time on someone like Councilman Cruz? Same thing about John Gales. Our goal should be the removal of the incompetent Segarra and concentrating on Luke Bronin or Robert Killian, making sure one of them wins. Nothing else.
ReplyDeleteWhy not place Joel as the hot dogs vendor in the goat yark ballpark, see how much revenue he'll bring to the city, after he voted to spend millions without understanding anything
ReplyDeleteWasn't the name to the ballpark he voted for changes to Yard Rats?
DeleteWith all the noise and discussions about the disfunctional HFD and the fraudulent annual budget presented by Pedro Caviar, both of which have implications to every city council member, where is the moron Joel Cruz in all that? Open your mouth you idiot, say something.
ReplyDeleteJoel Cruz: did you finally wake up? Have you decided what to say? What your comments are? You know, financing your stupid ballpark, the mayor's proposed budget, the disfunctional HFD. 4:29 asked you to open your mouth already
