Tuesday's National Night Out showed that Hartford's Youth are able and willing to work with their Police Department.
After a Hartford Police Department Motorcycle Officer ended up with a dead battery, several youth stepped up to help attempt to pop start the Harley-Davidson motorcycle while pushing it. It did eventually require a jump start, but it was good to see young men willing to step up and help out.
I guess if we are talking about community policing and good relations between our residents and public safety personnel, we can still say "Hartford Has It"
Don't your feet need to be able to touch the ground to ride a police motorcycle? HPD needs one of those signs like Disneyland, "You need to be this tall to ride this ride"
ReplyDeleteOfficer Chanaka and his camera= Kharma
ReplyDeleteWow. I honestly and truthfully believed and still that Lt Allen is high speed and of the highest degree of integrity and moral forditude. That this rag tag outfit would ever be allowed. Rob respected Fallon. I respected Fallon. And anyone of the old timers will tell you, Fallon had the ego of the decade, but he would turn over in the ground about the representation of traffic officers. Even bustamonte had to wipe the crumbs off his uniform on the motor. Even that eric gaddy showed pride. Im not knocking the kid, i dont really know him that well. Call it an lack of momentary judgement. No biggy.
ReplyDeleteCan someone please tell me what Captain Rethis do for 200 k a year ? I still can not find a job description . Take home suv full of city gas. At least captain roy trys hard to get the troops ready to go, like an invasion of normandy! And i will miss Lt Weaver. I love you very mich Andy. Very sad on my pj i will be thinking of you andy ...
ReplyDeleteIm not concerned the least bit what chris does. He is an ok cop. He can speak well and knows conditions work. But money and greed has overtaken him.
ReplyDeleteIm a supporter of u chris. Just tame it down son.
DMV Officer Ahlquist is gonna be pissed chris. Dont burn those calves brother!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhatever happened to the professional appearance of Hartford's motor officers? The spitpolished motor boots , a professional uniform representing their pride in HPD, with patches and a badge. This looks more like a training exercise rather than a community engagement.I guess times have changed, the new generation. Oh well. And kudos to the young men willing to help out.
ReplyDeleteWhat's next? Powder blue shirts and spray on beards?
Fallon could sell a ketchup popsicle to a eskimo in bushnell park. And leave Captain Blackbeard alone. He needs to recruit new guys to drive me around 6-2.
ReplyDeleteSgt Bremser is the reason the HPD Motor Unit is so well respected across Connecticut and actually throughout the Northeast. I am pretty sure this is not the appearance standard he sets for the officers.I am pretty sure Lt. Allan has set the bar much higher than this also,
ReplyDeleteLike they say, one bad apple......
Bremser is a good guy. A leader you would follow through fire, or a wall. Only a few of these guys left. Awesome cop and puts ronny coleman to shame. PERIOD!!
ReplyDeleteIf you guys keep this up your gonna get your pee pee's spanked by Chris Lyons for posting anonymously . Chris ,you always have a issue with anonymous comments, why not now? It's only ok for the men in blue?
ReplyDeleteChris's comments for anonymous postings are very legitimate. Posting under one's own name does add legitimacy but I also understand not everyone can post under their own name without repercussions
ReplyDeleteHey kevin,
ReplyDeleteIs that your area CSO? You should have a heart for an officer who provides for your area... Fyi
Someone should ask rovella and ford if call backs are part of the cso job description when you put in for the position. Do Cso s have city cell phones? And is it feasable to put in a callback of comp for every single call from the community? Hmmmmm. This is something that Rovella should look into.
ReplyDeleteRodney harris always looks spot on when he is on the motors working for 12 plus hours and at motors training. That unit really is falling apart since kevin ahlquist left.
ReplyDeleteAnd Neville would have lost his mind, as they like to say, while the cats away, the mice will play.
God help the motors ....
I have confidence in bremser and rob allen to set the bar straight again
National Night out. Every media outlet .. Wow. Zero professionalism .. Its like the time don linde was talking on his cell phone behind the uconn bench at the civic center on national tv.
ReplyDeleteWas rob allen on vacation? Gotta dial these 8 year non vested vets in before the unit falls apart ...
ReplyDeleteIts nice to do what you want. Its ok to made the command staff look obtuse and the highly regarded motor unit unprofessional. Its ok. There are 100 different excuses he will give. People that live in glass houses should not throw stones. Im sure chris lyons would enjoy that quote...
ReplyDelete11:37am
ReplyDeleteDoes he ?
who is this kid anyways? All the senior guys on the unit retired. Back in the day, tommy would never allow these antics. But this new generation is all about the money. How many pjs and ot can you work. Its kinda disheartening. But that is what happens when u give spots to your friends that have 5 years on the job.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the Chief should be looking at the work schedule of certain officers. Hector Robles- deja vu. And 11:37am, I doubt Kevin can answer your question unless his CSO happens to be working a PJ in his neighborhood, car 13 has higher visibility in Asylum Hill than the CSO does
ReplyDeleteHe is on the clock. Just not in his area of the city. Usually working overtime at the meadows concerts with the unit he made look dumb.
ReplyDeleteHe is not the only one. But a good start to wrestle in this larceny from the city. This is why the city is broke. Every cso should be required to work 40 hrs a week in their area. That would be a good start.
Kevin, one day the kronos print button will be pressed and hopefully they are posted here for the world to see.
Cheif rovella got a new contract. Maybe now he can dial in the cao scams. Pjs, callbacks, fake meetings, etc. its time to force these guys to work 40 hrs a week. Not 16 reg and 40 hrs of stinky pinky.
ReplyDeleteLt Allen. U are a man of integrity and respect. You have walked through hell to get the spot you deserve. Do what you must to dial this in before its too late.
ReplyDeleteChris chanaka, so what is on the scedule for this week ? Some overtime? Both concerts on overtime possibly? It might be nice one week to just work zero pjs and patrol your community.
ReplyDeleteAn audit should be done now that the scedule system is computerized. I bet the mayor would be interested to see the scams that have drained the city dry. Excessive greed.
I would put my name, but im sure i would be targeted and not given any more overtime with traffic.
Yes. Time for an i file. Audit this kid before the kronos printout gets sent to the courant and egg is on your face chief rovella. I know ford does not play games. Its time to end these circus antics. Should csos really make 128 k a year while neglecting their basic duties?
ReplyDeleteDont you clowns know that pjs and ot come first. All other work is secondary. That is the game for some. Not all. But most.
ReplyDeleteNot that it matters, but can i put those two lads in for a medal ? Those bikes are heavy.
This matter will be taken care of. bremser dont play games. I know him very well. He bleeds for the motors.
ReplyDeleteHandle your unit Lt Allen, cut away the dead flesh .
ReplyDeleteLeave the kid alone. He does not hurt anyone. We have guys here doing daily felonies and calling in sick every week.
ReplyDeleteThe defective issue will be handled by the commander of the traffic unit. Pressed uniforms and high speed is what is expected. If you can not reach the corrective levels then u need to leave. Over. Done.
ReplyDeleteIt seems the young generation of new guys has overtaken HPD and will erode away the solid wall built by veterans like bremser and allen. When will the bar be fixed to a high position?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDelete12:18pm,,.sorry to inform you that the solid wall your referring to is quickly eroding and there is no stopping its demise. Hartford Fire has had a good 20yrs on you guys in relation to not being able to fill the boots of the brave and fine men before us. As long as Hartford is committed to residency requirements ,minority / gender quotas and politically influenced hires,,things will never go back to before. You can get away with this nonsense with Public Works but when it comes to Fire and Police, these decisions are risky and will get people hurt and killed. Not an opinion but a fact.

ReplyDeleteYour comment or response to Anonymous 12:18 was the most ignorant comment that I've seen on this blog thread thus far and further it had nothing to do with what he or she was talking about. A small comment about the younger generation ballooned into you talking about race , gender and residency requirements. The City of Hartford should make way better strives to ensure the all depts our reflective of the diversity of the City of Hartford . It is very simple if you don't like the community that you work in then don't work here. You've could've taken your talent anywhere else but you chose Hartford.
Your lucky bremser saved you little chris. I hope u come to mids one day and teach everyone how to do it your way around here. That would be nice. Very nice indeed ....
ReplyDeletePut mike allen back on the motors. Past practices should be followed and not broken for others. I thought you ran traffic rob ?
ReplyDeleteCaptain jack. I would love to leave this dump. But it hard to go from eating tuna fish to dining on filet in avon or berlin. Im used to this life. I enjoy all the weirdo co workers. Only at HPD you can get a medal for riding in an ambulance. Maybe we can notch a few more 83s off the street for a patrol officer. Yah. 50 J cold unit is frozen inside these days.
ReplyDeleteFonzy would have been disgusted. He never needed anyone to push his bike. He would just snap his fingers. Snap the fingers like holton does to get those multiple js as of lately. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm
ReplyDeleteMake chanaka work the walmart pj everyday as his regular everyday. That would be the worst punishment that i could think of ....
ReplyDeleteStop n steal got a little better since you can shop and read the magazines.
Kevin,PLEASE POST COMMENT,THANKS! . Captain Jack and Coke,Please enlighten me and respond,,,Why are comments such as mine at 5:07 ,, that are based by fact and statistics ALWAYS considered ignorant??? The fact that the "young generation" of men and women of the Hartford Fire and Police Departments couldn't fill the shoes of the men before them is in no way a " SMALL" comment. Here's another question for you Captain Jack and Coke ,,What departments in Hartford are the hard working ,law abiding people from China ,Brasil,Nepal and Bosnia working in????? WHO'S IGNORANT NOW?!!! In closing ,I was born ,raised and risked my life for those who live, work and visit Hartford ,SO PLEASE DONT QUESTION MY LOYALTY !! IT'S NOT THAT I DONT LIKE THE COMMUNITY I WORK IN,,IT'S THAT I'M EMBARRASSED BY THE COMMUNITY I'M FROM!!!'
ReplyDelete@8:13
ReplyDeleteHey buddy, who ever you are, get a life. And get off the force you sound dangerous. Anyone who goes around spouting about how he has given his possible life for us ungrateful slobs needs to get off the force.
And stop living your life online. Do you know how foolish and childish you sound?
Lets get back on topic here. Why is chanaka still on the motors? I guess Lt Allen lets the inmates run the asylum. I always thought he was top dog in traffic. But now mefford is my fav traffic commander.
ReplyDeleteMr,Klean ,I literally do it together a reaction from GULLABLE IDIOTS LIKE YOU!!! Thanks ,you made my weekend. You wish you had my wonderful life ,,,of course that means you would have to move out of Hartford.
ReplyDeleteTommy null would not tolerate this sort of nonsense. When that rat meile tried to play games..... Tommy body slammed him into a pickup downtown. What happened rob ? I understand if your geting soft these days ...
ReplyDeleteThis is your last chance christopher to be a stand up cop and set an example. The days of power hungry ahlquist are gone my friend. Lead by example and put the community ahead of your 30 hrs of ot a week.
ReplyDeleteKarma. Thats what happens when u fool with mike allen. Its burns ...
ReplyDeleteRovella. Make these cso s work 40 hrs a week. If they dont want to. Back to patrol. Bunch of cry babies. Its all about money these days. One day i hope kronos gets a print button for all to see how a cso can work 2 days in the field and burn the rest to work shady ot in traffic. I think the community should see this. Maybe i will print some stuff out at a theod party location and send it here
ReplyDeleteWhat does chief ford think about his cso s only working pjs and hiding in offices? Audit them. Secret offices with bunk beds and tvs to watch american idol during the shift
ReplyDeleteChief Ford should look at himself before judging others. Maybe Rovella should evaluate his command staff first.
DeleteThat outfit is about as snazzy as the recruitment unit blue leasure pimp suit i seen at 10-2. I hope i can get one
ReplyDeleteWhat the real question is what person or entire unit is gonna get more guns this west indian 100 degree weekend in hartford
ReplyDelete1. Newell ( with sidekick logan )
2. STF. Entire unit.
3. Cold case / C4 henchmen
4. Traffic dui checkpoint
5. Teleserve / Booking
@10:57
ReplyDeleteIf I had your life, I would need to wash my hands after an evening of cleaning clocks on the night shift on Washington st, if ya know what I mean.
Kevin, I am appealing to your investigative side here. I appreciate your passion for Hartford and standing up for what's right. I am not asking you to throw your police friends under the bus. I am asking you on behalf of the community to do some research and meet with the police chief in order to re-evaluate the following officers assigned to central policing area.
ReplyDelete-Officer Adam D., who is almost never working in downtown unless his road job is there. He has been a CSO for too long and does not respect the position anymore. God forbid you should pull his activity report for the past 10 years Kevin, I think you as a private citizen you have contributed more to public safety than Adam has.
-Officer, soon to be Sergeant, Chris C., who would rather be doing anything else but policing the 200 block of Farmington Avenue or South Marshal Street. Chris spends about 90% hiding the in police office on Farmington Avenue and the other 10% working traffic details, like he is today. I'm sure he will set a fantastic example for our patrol officers when he is hiding in the office all day. I think you may see Chris skipped over the sergeants list, until he can prove that he is mature enough to do the "job" he is assigned to (CSO).
-But don't blame the officers. They are only following the example set by their Supervisor, who allows this mediocre behavior, and a true benefactor of all the central/north hot spot overtime, Sergeant Dave M. Kevin, ask anyone in the community if they know him. I’ll save you the trouble, no one has ever heard of him. Why? Because he is simply not interested in the community, police work, supervision or any of the above. Just the overtime. He is nowhere to be found. I know the chief is big on supervision, so why Kevin, is this person allowed to supervise those officers entrusted with building relationships between the police and the community? It is time for a change. It is time to put Sergeant Dave M. in a place he has never seen before; Patrol. Kevin, wouldn’t it be “nice” if our CSOs had a supervisor who inspired them? Led them? How about giving one of those new sergeant’s a chance?
Kevin, after you post this comment, these folks will scramble to be visible. They will rush around to be seen and heard by all, so it appears that they are doing something. Then after a couple of weeks, when this post is old, they will go back to being lazy and unproductive. But whatever, its Hartford Kevin. No one cares, no one knows. Please sit down with the chief and see what he has to say about these folks and keep up the good work.
Mr Klean. I can narrow down your identity to maybe ten zeros in this dept. Im shocked your glass house built on a plot of shame and ignorance is still standing.
ReplyDeleteTraffic guys?
ReplyDeleteWho do you think you are towing Former Chief Emory Hightowers personnel vehicle from the lot of 50 jennings rd? Dont you know that civilians like hightower are pretty important outside of HPD. Shame on you. I bet that central tow bill gets eaten by traffic !!!
3:28PM your points are are all very valid, as well as 100% accurate. But thre is a thing called "chain of command " for a reason. Why are we paying some pretty big salaries for so called "supervisors" if they aren't going to supervise. The Chief should not need to micromanage the activities of every officer when there are Sergeants, Lieutenants, Captains and Deputy Chiefs who should be supervising before it gets to the Chief; Instead, many of the people paid to be be supervisors don't want to supervise because it is more important to stay on the "buddy" lists of the officers they are supposed to be keeping in check. If a Sergeant sees an officer sitting in the office at 211 in sweatpants when he is supposed to be patrolling an area., the Sergeant needs to address the matter and take corrective action. If a Sergeant or a Lieutenant see an officer wearing an improper uniform or not following protocol, they are paid to "supervise" and address and correct the situation. Can you really tell me that a Deputy Chief doesn't question low productivity or no mileage being put on a vehicle by an officer who stays parked in a lot for the majority of his working hours? It is called supervision , or the lack thereof, and that is what I will bring to the Chief's attention, but there isn't too much he is not already aware of.
ReplyDelete9:42PM
ReplyDeleteYou got your information quickly, but quick doesn't equate to accurate. retired Chief Hightower's vehicle was not towed from the lot at 50 Jennings Road. It was towed from the street in front of 50 Jennings Road after an observant HPD officer saw the vehicle parked with the keys in the driver side door lock. The officer ran the registration as a suspected stolen vehicle and the registration came back as "status cancelled" "no information found". The officer then followed procedure and towed the vehicle as an unregistered suspected stolen vehicle. The HPD Traffic Division is probably one of the best run and most professional units at HPD and their operation shows that everyday, even when they tow a retired Chiefs unregistered vehicle for good reason.
Leave Dave alone. He plays the game. Its not his fault he has a bunch of charity case officers under his command. I kinda feel sorry for guys like adam. He does little, but does not cause 29s or liability on the city.
ReplyDeleteDave looks the part. ( hair )
Dave speaks well
Dave leads the path to department longivity.
Adam knows everyone downtown and makes the businesses feel protected.
Kevin,How can you honestly say the HPD Traffic Division is one of the best of anything? For decades cars have parked illegally on city streets,,did you ever see Willard St in your own neighborhood ? Why bother spending money on even and odd side parking signs when your gonna let them park on both sides? What about all the reckless driving? Drivers running red lights, cruising thru stop signs,quads/dirt bikes ruleing the roost, babies and children not properly secured,unregistered/unlicensed vehicles routinely involved in accidents, low arrest stats related to DUI's. I've seen you at numerous accidents within walking distance of your residence which makes your support hard to believe. Everyone but you seems to know that it's like the Wild West when it comes to obeying traffic laws in Hartford. Personally I have not seen a traffic stop by a lone cruiser in years. Whatever that Chief Rovella is feeding you is bad stuff,,your gonna get sick from it one of these days.
ReplyDelete10:34pm
ReplyDeleteI stand by my comments, although I find your assessment somewhat bizarre. How is the reckless behavior and moronic driving the responsibility of the Traffic Division. Why aren't you placing the blame where it belongs? On the drivers themselves who blatantly flaunt their disregard for our laws.Or are you saying the Traffic Division is encouraging people to drive like fools?
Maybe you should be placing the blame on the previous Administrations who have refused to hire new/replacement police officers resulting in a deficit of close to 150 officers in the ranks of HPD and reducing the Traffic Division to the minimal numbers they are at today.
And your numbers on the DUI stats are not accurate. Hartford's Traffic Division has some of the highest DUI enforcement numbers in Hartford County and probably statewide. They have been recognized by many groups, including MADD and the State of Connecticut for their efforts. Th Connecticut DOT recently awarded HPD a grant in excess of $300,000 for the design and purchase of a mobile DUI processing van to assist in their efforts, complete with 2 breathalyzer units and cells for holding DUI suspects, and every action is recorded on video.
And in this current climate, especially with the number of guns on Hartford's streets and moving around in vehicles, maybe Officer safety is the reason you don't see many "lone cruisers" making traffic stops. I want to see every one of our officers going home safely at the end of their shift, not making you happy by making risky traffic stops.
And whoever you are, you must also know I talk with Chief Rovella and I trust his word and I find him to be an honorable man who does care about Hartford, and I support him and his efforts 100%
Kevin, hold the phone there buddy. I once called the Lt in traffic to complain about drivers running red lights. His answer was, "tell us where and we will send out a crew." I respond that he didn't understand my complaint. I told him it drivers were flaunting the law everywhere because they know they can get away with it. I even run changing to red lights now because I know I can get away with it.
ReplyDeleteKevin, this is out of control. It was never this bad. I almost broad-sided a car running a light a few months back. I didn't expect a fool to just race through at a major interaction. I told the LT that he should have teams out everywhere very day issuing summonses. Probably the oat we can hope for if the legal watch dogs don't fight it, is camera's that will automatically issue citations. Shit ya, we do need Big Brother watching.
Damn straight. But no, police can't be everywhere. But it's bad. You only need to drive down any street to observe the remains of an accident - everywhere. Take a pad and jot down every fence, pole break, brick wall. Every street sign knocked over. Not long ago, a woman head on crashed into another car at 7 AM. I was first on the scene. She was most likely having a good nod on some dope.
4:42pm
ReplyDeleteyour calls should probably be to the Mayor's Office, not the traffic LT. HPD can only work with what it has
Kevin, Maybe you need to get out of Hartford and look around. Start with Hartford's closest neighboring police departments ,Wethersfield ,West Hartford and Newington . Any resident or regular visitor in those towns will tell you that if you drive like a jackass ,your gonna get pulled over. Most of their arrests are related to motor vehicle stops and they all read the same,,,jackass goes thru red light, speeds, drives without registration ,license,etc...officer finds drugs, open containers, knife, gun, warrants out for arrest ,stolen vehicle,etc...Guess where most of these jackasses are from??Thats right ,the same city you say should turn a blind eye for fear of confrontation, did you ever hear of calling for backup? Kevin, you know firefighters ,ask them how many field sobriety tests they've witnessed after an accident involving a obviously impaired driver. In over 20 yrs in the dept I have witnessed not 1 ! And please don't lead in a cheer about DUI checkpoints , I would at the very least expect them to catch a few. Kevin, you never address and justify the substations, there are upwards of 3 to 5 cars there for hours everyday. If HPD is that short in manpower on the street, why are they in there for so long?
ReplyDeleteWriting reports, filling out repetitive paperwork, and watching power dms
DeleteAre you implying Hartford residents commit more crime than the lily White folks in the the surrounding towns ? Or maybe people of color are subject more to traffic stops an stop an frisk searches you my friend are part of the problem
Delete@4:53 you mean 311? They need retraining. I know what I am talking about.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all,,,where do you see in my comment race or color????But since you went there,,,,Facts and statistics show that Hartford residents commit more crimes than the 3 towns I mentioned,,,combined ! This is not opinion or an ignorant comment. West Hartford is getting more and more like the United Nations every year and most of these new residents are not lily white,,,,the BIG difference is ,they obey the law and respect the town they chose to reside in. As far as people of color being subject to more traffic stops,,,,facts and statistics show they commit more traffic violations. Please go online and lookup the fact from the federal transportation department showing that minorities are less likely to use proper motor vehicle restraints on children. That race card got old about 25 years ago ,,,it actually looks silly now. Educate yourself and move on.
ReplyDeleteHow come that demaine kid gets away with working pjs instead of sceduled meetings with the public ? Things that will come to an end when the kronos print button reveals all. Its no magic " eight " ball what demaine does. Everyone knows.
ReplyDeleteSo long andy weaver.
Hey rob. Its a pitty you have not heard the vast amount of bad mouthing chris has said about the situation. The verfication of his talking poorly about you is coming to light. I just dont wanna see you get scripted by an 8 year non vested officer .
ReplyDeleteI guess my big mistake was that I thought this guy on the motorcycle was working for the city service and taking it to be fixed. Due to his inappropriate outfit. And who has children push him especially on National Night Out with all the media. Not a good impression!
ReplyDeleteBrookman:
ReplyDeleteIt has taken nearly 5 years for me to finally agree with one your posts/opinions. Yes indeed there is a HUGE LACK OF SUPERVISION WITHIN HPD. Especially First Line Supervision...!
Who's Chanaka?
ReplyDelete- HPD Patrol Officer
Dr. Bones.
ReplyDeleteThe officer in the photo can't touch the ground. He can't place the full weight of the bike on one ankle due to a severe brake some time ago when the bike fell over on him crushing the ankle. Rather than getting it xrayed and set properly he chose instead to wrap it and continue riding. The broken bones never healed properly and is the reason he can't run or get into a foot chase or support a large motorcycle. He should be on light duty and should never be in patrol. That officer should hurry and seek the safety of a sergeants position and sit in crime studies or where your store records. They could offer him a Harley 883 Hugger.
