  1. Stop with the checkpoints already,,get HPD to mirror other departments that continue to go "old school" on drunk drivers,,THEY NEED TO PERFORM FIELD SOBRIETY TESTS EVERYDAY,,,NOT JUST ON "SPECIAL OCCASIONS". I've told you before ,I have not witnessed one field sobriety test in over 20 years responding to accidents involving OBVIOUSLY impaired drivers. Cops routinely get them on a stretcher (injured or not) and send them UNACOMPANIED to the hospital. It's a widely known fact among EMTs,Paramedics, fire and even bystanders. Kevin, why do you continue to act naive about this very serious matter.? Do you think Wethersfield ,Newington and West Hartford give out "free passes"?? And if your going to defend this again,,please provide me with a number of DUI arrests in all of 2015 NOT related to checkpoints. I bet you won't.

  4. Since when is stating a fact a rant? Let me ask you this 1:08 pm ,,,If a drunk got a free pass from a cop avoiding paperwork in Hartford and this drunk killed a friend or family member of yours,,,,would you honestly say it's ok that they didn't do their job? And if I'm not happy with people not doing their job gets interpreted as being "ANTI" ,,,Then God help me , cause I've gotta put the word"ANTI" in front of whole lot of other occupations! Anti-Doctors,,Anti-Politicians,Anti-Commentators on this blog,,Etc. If cops want to give a free pass for jaywalking ,,,ok,,,,but please don't defend this very dangerous practice of ignoring something as serious as drunk driving .

  5. Front page story in the Journal Inquirer tonight is about a HPD DUI arrest, and it was not at a checkpoint.i guess that disproves your theory 6:05pm

  6. Kevin, he might have a point. Why do you need to ignore some of his issues?

  8. I am not here to further your agenda. You can make your own request to HPD for the info, but it would mean you have to come out of hiding instead of as anonymous

  9. 1:04am

I am not ignoring anything, but can we occasionally give credit for a good effort. When was the last time you complained to the Mayor or Council about the depleted police resources?

  10. I don't like the fact people now use social media to warn others about DUI checkpoints. If you are drinking you should not be driving, let alone trying to avoid these checkpoints. I think that if the laws were stricter, people would really think twice about getting behind the wheel even after having just one or two small drinks today.

  11. It is a Court Order that requires the advance notice of the checkpoints. And I kind of doubt that drunk drivers are thinking too much about social media before they put their keys in the ignition. Actually I don't think they are thinking at all when they make their decision to drive drunk

  12. I often wonder why would anyone post information about a DUI checkpoint? If the person who used that information to get away from the checkpoint happened to kill your child as a result, would you still want to be so eager to give them an escape route from committing a crime? I just think this is like giving a killer an escape route out of jail.
