WHITE PRIVILEGE ALIVE AND WELL AT HPD

HPD CHIEF JASON THODY

"Is there really a recording?"

I need to start off with an apology. I have been naive. I had hoped that in this day and age something as disgusting as white privilege didn't really exist. I had hoped it was just another part of the "political" buzz words to get people riled up and enflame unrest.

After watching the special treatment Hartford Police Chief Jason Thody has received after his evading crash, I have to say white privilige is alive and well, especially at HPD and the Middlesex County States Attorney's Office. Or maybe it is just another example of the "thin blue line" Either way it is troubling that we are not all equal under the law.

I really don't like to make things racial, but how can you not when you see the special treatment Thody has received. Do you think any African American male from Hartford's  Northend could escape an evading accident without any charges, as Thody has done? A well documented accident , called in by an apparently impartial motorist and documented by a Lieutenant Colonel from the Connecticut State Police.

Look back and follow the story of Lieutenant Paul West in my archives. LT West is an African American supervisor in the Hartford Police Department who has suffered the wrath of HPD and Jason Thody after West was accused of mishandling the Kelly Baerga incident.  Much of that wrath was based upon what could be called "miscommunication" in some of West's reports and memos about the incident. Is Jason Thody the only one who has the benefit of being able to "misspeak" and West has no such benefit?

Mind you, the documentation of Thody's escapades  was only done after the initial coverup was discovered by me and relayed to the Connecticut State Police to try to verify the facts in the original falsified Bowsza report to try to see if Thody's version was truthful. Thody, according to Bowsza'a report , had claimed that he had called the Connecticut State Police immediately after the crash to report it and that CSP declined to respond or issue a case number to him That turned out to not be truthful and subsequently another report came out claiming that Bowsza had "misunderstood" Thody.

Thody never reported the accident to CSP, as any motorist is required to do under Connecticut State Law. I think in the end we will see documentation to verify if any of Thody's statements are true. I'm betting not.

How many of us could get away with that type of behavior? Probably not many, unless you were a caucasian Police Chief. And what drove the decision of the Middlesex County States Attorney Michael Gailor to get the Connecticut State Police to back off on Thody. I guess that old adage that "Justice is Blind" must not apply to powerful white men like Thody I think lady Justice in this case is more deaf than blind and isn't aware of the public outcry for greater Police transparency and accountability. Skin color and power, two great qualities to possess if you want to skirt the law.

  3. Lt. Paul West should have been our chief. He was set up and it was a conspiracy to hold this fine African male down.

  4. I watched the city council meeting tonight and it was my opinion that they made up their minds not to do anything before the meeting even started, except for one councilman who was in the minority because he wanted the rest of them to take action. They claimed that as brown and black people they know all too well what it is like to be denied due process. When that one councilman pointed out that there is no due process issue because the chief would be paid his full salary while on suspension, one councilman then questioned the validity of what the 911 caller said he saw, explaining it away by saying he knows what it feels like to have people call 911 on him.
Anyone who would like to see the meeting for themselves can check out youtube in a few days because the city normally posts the meetings there, unless this one somehow doesn't make it to youtube!

    1. New Haven forced one of their chiefs out for 2 off duty verbal assaults vs civilians. No violence. Not using a 3500lb weapon recklessly but verbal assaults. Hartford makes excuses to keep a guy who was obviously impaired, repeatedly lied, damaged city property and whatever else. U asked for it. U got it. U deserve it. Luke and Jason ladies and gentlemen. Good job!

  5. I think Chief Thody has done a good job up until now and I don't think race has anything to do with the mayor backing him, it is more like he is my pony and I am behind him no matter what (arrogance really). However, there are a lot of people disappointed in him, and they should be, what he did was dangerous, if they did what he did they would be thrown under the bus post haste. We should expect more from our chief, and more from our assistant chief whose responsibility it is to do more than prepare a preordained, shellacked internal report. If Thody has to go, Medina should go too.

  6. This is why people hate cops. This is why people snap and shoot them! When the most obvious reason comes to terminate one, what happens? NOTHING!

  7. During City Council meeting what I saw was a bunch of folks refusing to take responsibility and do what they were elected to do. ALL THE DEMOCRATS refused to take a vote FOR or AGAINST the resolution presented. Sanchez ran away from taking a stance (as usual) asking to postpone the vote. Why? Have some guts and Vote FOR or AGAINST the resolution. SIMPLE. Lebron tried to minimize the crash putting it in contrast to a recent shooting. He kept repeating that he was not that concerned with "scratches". It was clearly an attempt to minimize things. However for those of us who know $3300 is a lot of $$ for some "scratches". Rosado, tried the "Im not gonna speculate" line. WHY? It is obvious that Thody lied and changed his story various times. Once the 911 phone call audio was released we no longer have speculation. Yes, its difficult to establish if Thody was indeed drunk or impaired. But take that detail away and listen to the 911 call. What the caller described was reckless driving on the part of Thody. Regardless of the DUI assumption, reckless driving is a highly irresponsible act on the part of a police chief. Thody's attempts to hide the truth with the aid of Thea Montanez and Bronin should be concerning to all taxpayers. The rest of council mostly stayed quiet...WHAT A SAD BUNCH!! Much respect to Bermudez & Michtom for trying to the right thing on behalf of the Hartford taxpayers. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TRANSPARENCY BRONIN MENTIONED..??

  8. Why are Bermudez and Michtom the only councillors acting as councillors?

  9. I see Political Privilege, not White Privilege.
Look at Gail P. Hardy, former State's Attorney.
Collecting a not too shabby paycheck for not doing her job.
I see some "special treatment" there.
How far back did the shootings go that she never ruled on, 8,10 YEARS?

As far as the story of Lieutenant Paul West, I'll have to, as you suggest,
    refamiliarize myself with that case.

Make no mistake, I'm not standing up for, or making excuses for Thody,
I just don't see it the way you do.
