HARTFORD'S ASHLEY MADISON INQUIRY EXPANDING

After word came out last week regarding the Ashley Madison Cheaters  website being hacked, numerous hartford.gov email addresses were in the hacked database. I submitted an FOI request for the access to the City's servers and the e-mails associated with the hartford.gov accounts.

The results are  still being researched, but the preliminary results are interesting. At least two of the users come from HPD  and have been identified as a retired Lieutenant and a detective. According to sources , the detective may have exchanged as many as 1700 emails through the site. Two other cheaters are reportedly from the Board of Education Administration.

According to sources, the City is now expanding the inquiry to search for activity by Hartford employees to other popular dating websites such as match.com

Much more to come on this, including the e-mails

  1. If the emails are all hartford.gov how does that include the school employees? All board of education employees emails are hartford schools.org. I smell a cover up already by the city.

  6. You can actually access city email from home. You don't have to be at police station or any other city building. You can even access it from your cell phone

  7. When was the last time a north 67 was solved? Looks like more time is being spent on internet cheating rather than solving a 67.

  8. What about all city employees who read your website on city time including the ones at city hall. That is not work related either. I guarantee all city employees at one time or on a daily basis use city computers for non related work searches. Like looking for a vehicle for sale, buying products on EBaY or Amazon. When the city of Hartford supplied internet access to all city divisions they never said that we couldn't go online except for illegal activities like solicitation of prostitutes or pornographic websites or any other illegal activity that is against state and federal or city statutes. All city computers prevent any user from accessing a pornographic or sexual related content website. A dating website is not a pornographic website. No one is selling services to one another.

  10. Kevin, when I worked for the City, now retired, many of us in the department worked on computers, and for years many notices came from Department Heads, and management, warning computer users that we are not to use the computers for personal use, it was only to be used for work related business, so to me, you follow the rules or face the consequences, most of us followed the rules. What most City Employees don't get is that you have other people checking what you are doing on the computer, they always had this and always will, why do they think they have a department called MHIS ? They are located or where located on Constitution Plaza. Another thing they don't get is that City time is City time, if you have something to check on the computer, then wait until you get home, and look information on your own home computer, it's that simple!

  11. Comment at 10:09 PM- you are justify a city employee time wasted not doing the city's business. Go to EBay or Amazon at LUNCH TIME on your on time not at tax-payers expense. That s why you guys are doing a lousy job in the first place, you don't care about doing a job of excellence in your position. Use the internet either for job related work and for your personal self on LUNCH time. This is the excuse you guys give, "oh, we don't have enough personnel to do this "job" we are overwhelmed!" But if you use you time actually working you will be able to do your job. Stop shopping on the web on OUR TIME!

  12. I am retired from a Hartford based insurance company. The policy throughout my career there was that email was for business purposes only. The employees received periodic reminders of the policy by corporate and were advised that if we were caught doing otherwise we would be disciplined up to and including termination. As mentioned by the previous poster, our emails were subject to monitoring by the company. Why should the City of Hartford be any different? The taxpayers resources are paying for the computers.
