HPD STATEMENT ON PROPERTY ROOM CLERKS ARREST

FROM HPD
Subject: City of Hartford employee fired and arrested

On August 18, 2015 a supervisor in the Hartford Police Department Property Room learned that during a regular audit of property, at least one bag of marijuana submitted as “Found Property” was missing. The supervisor reported this discovery to the Hartford Police Department Internal Affairs Division. The supervisor was able to determine through his initial audit that a civilian City of Hartford clerk assigned to the HPD Property Room, Liza Aponte (40yo of Hartford) was the source of the missing property. An immediate internal investigation was initiated, to include an expansive audit of property room evidence to include all drugs, money, jewelry and weapons. Aponte was transferred pending the outcome of the investigation.

The investigation expansive audit revealed a total of three bags of property missing. Internal Affairs investigators, based on video surveillance and closely maintained property room logging records were able to confirm the missing evidence was taken by Liza Aponte.

On September 3rd, 2015 after the appropriate administrative process, Aponte was terminated.
Internal Affairs investigators interviewed Aponte. Based on evidence and her own statements, on September 15, 2015 investigators applied for an arrest warrant for Aponte. On September 21, 2015 it was approved. On Wednesday September 23, 2015 Aponte turned herself into the Hartford Police Department. She was arrested and booked for 2 counts of Larceny 2nd Degree and 2 counts of Unlawful Removal of Records. The charges came with a $10,000 judge set bond.

Of Note:
Liza Aponte was hired by the City of Hartford in an effort to civilianize certain positions within the police department. She was hired in January of 2015.

Three bags were removed from the property room by Aponte. All contained small amounts of marijuana. One bag contained an unknown type pills. All bags were submitted to the HPD property room as “Found Property”. This means they are not attached to any criminal proceedings or criminal investigations.

The expansive audit did not reveal any other missing property.

Further safeguards have been put in place to prevent civilians from misappropriating evidence.

Complete details of the warrant will be made available through the GA14 Clerks Office.

  1. I wonder when the HPD officer supervising distribution of amo gets singl d out, charg d and arrested and mug shot?

Answer: Never becaus cops get away with crim s just as every municipal employee gets away with pilfering. I once saw this taking place as an employee was retiring and she was walking out with $3,500.00 with of city property. It really is disgusting how much city property is stolen. Then we all pay for the retiree with overly generous pensions that the city can no longer afford.

  3. So Lou Crabtree steals ammo misuses funds and nothing is heard of ever again. Why are the taxpayers in the city of Hartford paying this dirty cops pension??? What's going on with that investigation Chief Rovella? Where's the DOJ or the FBI on this one? I guess when you are the right complexion you get the protection. What a joke

    Opium4theMasses,
I was going to ask the same, where is the public shaming mugshot that the Courant loves to run on the general public for small time offenses? Just like the mugshot wasn't shown of the off duty HPD officer arrested a couple weeks ago at the casino.

Why doesn't this story have the thief's home address like the address for the two recent prostitutes arrested in a recent Courant story?

@temccormick@yahoo.com : It might be because the criminal in this case is not a white suburbanite.

Not even a pen to paper on that trainwreck.

  9. How can the City not afford a pension. Our pension fund is one of the most solvent in the country because we don't let the City touch it.

    ReplyDelete
  10. How is there no paper trail of ordering an misusing over 400k of the city's money an no accountability for ammunition?? What type of circus is that at the HPD an City Hall?

  17. Hey Y'All,

Lewis Crabtree is working another job for Smith & Wesson as a sales

  18. Crabtree always thought he was the Prince on
the Range telling Cops look at my new cars

and how Important he was. All he did was
talk bout his hunting and how he ran the Range.
The dude was like Hiler ordering everyone around.
He also had very bad hygene never showered.

  19. Didn't Crabtree accuse RICKY MARTINEZ OF STEALING A GUN MAGAZINE? Then come to find out that was a false accusation. And all this time he was the one stealing Rovella is a hypocrite and you are right my friend he did run the range like a modern day Hitler. I don't just blame city hall and the PD or the media I also blame all these so called Black Politicians and black Religious leaders on the north end of Hartford who do all this yelling and screaming about justice and equality but keep their mouths shut on situations like this. There is no telling where all those bullets ended up or who has them heck where are all these gangsters an thugs in the city getting their ammunition from they can't just walk into Hoffmans an purchase it so something is definitely fishy!!!!

  20. Someone notify the Department of Justice, the ATF an the FBI of what's going on that PD an city hall!!!

  21. Crabtree has a nice new gig. A nice pension, and a hot wife. Life is good. If you had the probable cause, it would have happened. But since G A 14 does not sign police involved 24s, crabtree has zero to worry.

Crabtree is the man, he is worshiped at smith and wesson. Relax your tired fingers from typing for a bit and give dixie a bone....

  22. Dixie's owner does not care about Lou Crabtree anymore and certainly didn't type all the above comments. Lou Crabtree does not work for smith and wesson this was confirmed by personel division for smith and wesson. He currently resides in Jackman Maine pop 862. He has abandoned his property located at 143 shaker Road (.70 acres) and I'm told it has a lein on it. Regardless Dixie I'm sure is well knowing her owner and the other gentleman that make up the firearms training unit will do their best to take training at the Hartford pd in the right direction. That direction being the training required to make sure officers reach a safe and happy retirement.

Yo You mean Mark Tedeschi who was fondly
known as Meatball. He was DKR little pet
always buying him lunch, cleaners, even use to sing
for Daryl the Oldies But Goodies. Nobuddy
    liked the dude.

  27. Call workers Comp Fraud let them know about Tedeschi.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Where is the fraud? He incurred a legitimate injury on duty, he eventually retired when he couldn't return to work, a retirement he was entitled to after his service to the City. Plenty of other fraud to look at, but I think you are looking in the wrong direction here, unless you are just trying to stir something up that isn't there
