The drawing above is currently on display at Hartford Public High School as part of an "art exhibit".
Just the fact this is what a student is drawing along with its written message , I would hope is raising red flags all over the place, but apparently it isn't. Is anyone requesting any type of counseling for this obviously troubled student?
"I'll have blood gushing out your dome boy on your homeboy" doesn't seem like a normal thought for a high school student, yet the drawing is on display showing an assault rifle and the troubling message.
Is anyone paying attention in our schools or is this threatening behavior acceptable?

Sounds like art to me. Give the kid an NEA grant, Guggenheim Fellowship, and a MacArthur Genius Award.
No question I'm happy we spend hundreds of million each year on Connecticut's Hartford District schools.
And Velasquez stole Peter Paul Reubens work for las meninas. Does he get an "F" for lack of originality?
Just because a young man sees truth in the words of performance artist and repeats that as part of an art project for school does not make this a waste of time, or a call to worry about Columbine.
The young man perhaps sees truth in the rap because it reflects the violent reality around him, and helps him to understand his place in this world a little better.
This is a wake up call for us to reduce the violence by aggressively targeting guns. I guarantee that this young man could find you an illegal gun in 15 minutes or less. That is the problem, not that he quotes rap music which is the product of the mean streets.
First a play promoting Homosexuality, and now this alleged art? What happened to teaching the 3 "R"s? Sure glad my tax dollars are supporting this foolishness.

Don't you have more pressing issues in Hartford to blog about than a child's art project? When you take something out of context, you will never be able to comprehend why it's there in the first place.
The students' exhibit was "Free Speech vs. Responsibility" and "obviously" (to use your words) you didn't understand the point - neither did some of the people who read your blog. The student who created the art isn't troubled. He was following the assignment by using rap lyrics that he found disturbing, which are protected speech, to highlight what **he** sees as a problem with kids listening to violent pro-gun lyrics.
Why did you single out this kid's art over the others? Did you even go to this exhibit yourself?
Don't squash a child's creativity just to stir up controversy for your own gain and funnel traffic to your blog.

The fact that plagiarism was allowed to be displayed, or that the display was a drawing of an AK47 shouldn't be our main concern here...but the genesis or reason why that this is all a young student could come up with for an art project.
Way too much violence is such a tiny city.
The lyrics are from rapper Cassidy who was convicted of manslaughter in a shooting death. Unfortunately he is now incarcerated for violation of his probation. He is a fine example for children everywhere. LOL.
At least F. Brookside puts the situation with the picture in another light for all to be considered. I question though if the student really does find the lyrics disturbing as Mr. Barry Reese is a popular rapper who has made it successfully into mainstream despite a troubling background. Reality is that unfortunately too many children in Hartford are exposed to gun violence. As we all know it isn't uncommon to hear the noise of shots being fired, especially at night.

Unfortunately the Rapper Cassidy is in jail for Violation of Probation for Manslaughter. Are you kidding me. That character belongs in the can with the rest of the violent thugs. He stinks, his lyrics are dangerous and he is not someone that any young person should try to emulate or be like.
