THANKS FOR THE INQUIRIES, I AM STILL AROUND

Just to answer the questions, e-mails and comments, I have been very quiet this week at a time when most would expect me to have been very vocal.

Unfortunately it was due to a situation which was out of my control as I was hospitalized most of the week. Things are definitely on the mend now, but it was a tough week where the blog and Eddie Perez were the furthest thing from my mind. Without going into a lot of detail, most of which you wouldn't want to hear anyway, I somehow came down with "infectious colitis" apparently caused by the e-coli bacteria.

Thanks to those who have expressed their concern and to those who have called, e-mailed, and even visited me in the hospital. It definitely makes you realize what is important and appreciate those around you.

With that being said, I plan to start posting this afternoon some of my thoughts on the Perez verdict and also explaining details as to how the investigation began for me.

Thanks again.

What is up with Jodi Rell, is she crazy wanting to pardon Perez. What rock is she living under?

Jeff said...

Not sure where you got your info from but in CT the Governor does not have the power to pardon. Not to mention she's not fond of Eddie anyway.

It started when Eddie gave her some of his smug attitude many years ago when she held a state wide crime reduction meeting and didn't invite him.

I guess Eddie did his part to reduce crime after all by going to jail.

When are you announcing for Mayor?

Your followers seem to think so highly of you.

I am sure this is being considered!!

Mayor Brookman!!!!!

Jeff is correct...there is no power to pardon...nor would a new Governor pardon him....even his support for Lamont wont mean that Lamont will do anything for him.

Jeff said...

Bruce, check out this news article. Even Lamont has seemed to turn on Eddie. He's losing allies very fast.

Jeff...Perez is supposed to transmit his letter to city hall today...lets see if its either the full resignation or some sort of leave of absence....i hope its the former and not the latter.

There is a council meeting scheduled at city hall tonight at 7:00pm where the public will be invited to speak. Does anyone want to share their opinions on Segarra?

Jeff said...

I wonder who is going to write his resignation letter seeing he has dyslexia?

At this point to take a leave of absence would make him look even more foolish but you never know, he's fought every step tooth-and- nail so far.

It's my understanding all 9 council members have already reached an agreement to vote Eddie out if he didn't resign quickly and Eddie has been made aware of this.

As far as Segarra opinions...

I've never met him but I work for Hartford and just about everyone I talk to in the city has only said positive things about him. Time will tell for sure, but I'm comfortable stating he will be a hell of an improvement over Eddie.

Just so people know, when Eddie loses his appeal (and he will) the city needs to go after Eddie for reimbursement of all his legal fees. The city does not go after Santos for the money. (lawyers don't like to make laws that hurt their sources of income and most of our law makers are or were lawyers)

One of my big concerns is if Eddie has enough allies left behind at city hall that the city will not seek reimbursement for all his legal fees, which were our tax dollars.

The process of recovering that money will have to go through corporation council and you know damn well John Rose will try and stop or distort that process. (assuming Mayor Segarra doesn't show him the door soon)

This is something "We the People" need to track and hold the new leadership accountable for. Eddie took our tax money for his personal use and we want it back.

Jeff, I have a friend who is well-placed in the City and who has researched to the ground the issue of whether the City has issued any payments to Santos & Sealy and the answer is, it has not. Obviously, I didn't examine the records myself, but this person is very capable, has access to the relevant records, and did the work. I suppose he/she could be wrong, but absent some concrete evidence (i.e. a check register, cancelled check, etc.) to the contrary I don't see this is a real issue.

Jeff said...

Rich, thats good to know. I'm sure at some point Santos will be looking to get paid. I wonder if the city can say "no" go to Eddie to get paid now that Eddie was found guilty. Bruce do you know anything about this?

Lets work together at keeping an eye on how our tax dollars are paid out on this issue.

I'm sure Kevin will be filing FOI's on that matter as things unfold.

I can confirm tht the City hasnt paid Perez's legal bills. We are awaiting the letter of resignation..as of 3:00 PM city hall hasnt received it.2 Councilmen told me that if there isnt a letter of resignation by 5:00PM, then they will meet as a Caicus and put his impeachment on for the next regularly scheduled Council meeting, which is the following Monday. They also confirmed that Perez has not asked for nor will receive any special deals or arrangements for his resignation. He will get a check for his sick days and vacation days and have a chance to buy into the city health plan.

Jeff said...

Good info Bruce.

I'll give Eddie one thing...like a true gang banger, he sure goes down with a fight.

It's not like Eddie is going to put the city first. I wonder if he will get a job for the next 3 months? He may have some financial difficulty. I wonder if Santos will handle his appeal. I know that he can get a public defender.

Where can I get a "Free Eddie" t-shirt?

Jeff said...

Bruce, do you know if Santos has to ask Eddie for payment now that he was convicted or can he still seek payment from the city?

Also keep us posted on the resignation if you would please.

Does the city health care plan cover anal damage if raped in jail?

Bruce Rubenstein said...

Jeff..he cannot seek payment from the city as the charter and statutes are clear, in that anyone convicted of a crime cannot have their bills paid by the city.

Cara said...

Why should he be paid accrued sick and vacation time when he used our tax dollars to renovate his home. That is, if you read all the affidavits, you will see that while Eddie only gave Costa $20,000, the value of the work was $40,000. Trust me, Costa did NOT eat the difference. He billed it back to the city on the Park St project and on a parking garage projects!!!! As far as I can tell, Eddie owes us money, we do NOT owe him money. WTF????

Vito said...

Kevin, inquiring minds want to know. Did you get sick from eating in one of Hartford's restaurants??? If so, which one??? Word on the street is that Eddie has "grandfathered" in some of his friends establishments that are NOT up to current codes....

Bruce Rubenstein said...

Cara,,,he will get the accrued sick days and vacation days because unlike Eddie, we follow the law here.On another note..and you will like this...Judge Dewey in her sentencing can and probably will fine him.

Tony said...

Bruce, in addition to fining Eddie, can the judge order that the new kitchen and bathroom improvements be removed from his house??? I think I had read that in the case of convicted drug dealers who buy property (cars, houses, etc.)purchased with the proceeds of illegal drug sales, the property is seized by the government.

Bruce Rubenstein said...

Tony....that could happen but most likely won't.
