COTTO RESIGNS FROM COUNCIL

Councilman Luis Cotto has apparently resigned from the Hartford City Council effective July 31, 2012 according to a "tweet" he sent out this afternoon.

Cotto will be moving to the Boston area.

According to the City Charter, Cotto will need to be replaced by another Working Families Party member

Let's hope his replacement cares more about Hartford than Puerto Rico.

I doubt it

Kevin: I believe the Honorable Mr. Cotto's replacement need only be a non-democrat, versus your idea he/she be a WFP member (since there are already 6 distinguished democrats on the City Council already) allowing the Council to choose anyone who is not registered as a democrat when they take the oath of office. I trust the Council will diligently and thoughtfully consider this decision, all with the City's best interest in mind.

anonymous 12:18,

you are incorrect. from the City Charter as follows "Filling council vacancies. A vacancy in the council, from whatever cause arising, shall be filled by majority vote of the council within sixty (60) days following the vacancy, provided any vacancy shall be filled by appointment of a person of the same political party as the appointee's predecessor. "

note the "must be filled...of the same political party"

The aetna like to think that they are the Trump corp. of Hartford. But they are just neigborhood bullies. Try helping out the small working class citizen with dreams of a small buisness, instead of acting like a five year old that wants candy.........You should be embarassed MICHAEL........Embarrassed !!!!!!

On another topic....

I was thrilled to see that Hartford is getting some federal and state grants for some police and beautification issues. It is clear to me that Pedro and his staff have their eyes on the prize here and are "in the game" getting a fair share of grant money.

Cotto is a zero, plain and simple. Good riddens....
