(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today
announced that the Hartford Business Improvement District, the City of Hartford
and the State of Connecticut will host a victory parade and rally in downtown
Hartford on Sunday, April 12, 2015 to congratulate the UConn Women’s Basketball
team for winning the 2015 NCAA Basketball National Championship.
The
parade begins at 3:00 p.m. at the State Capitol building and will be followed by
a victory rally on Trumbull Street, directly in front of the XL Center at

“The UConn Women’s Basketball team, led by Head Coach
Geno Auriemma, has for the third year in a row shown the nation that the spirit
and strength of college basketball resides in Connecticut,” Governor Malloy
said. “On Sunday, let’s show the team how proud we are of their success by
honoring them with a victory celebration they will remember for a
lifetime.”
The
Governor specifically thanked the Hartford Business Improvement District for
once again hosting this event, organizing its sponsors, and giving the residents
of Connecticut an opportunity to celebrate another national championship from
our state.
Organizers continue to rely on private funds to support
the parade and the rally. This event is produced by the Hartford Business
Improvement District, in collaboration with the City of Hartford and the State
of Connecticut, and a number of civic and business organizations. Businesses
may choose from several sponsorship levels ranging from $10,000 to $2,500 or

Congrats to UConn Women's Basketball team!
Just make sure Segarra doesn't take all the credit for your championship during the parade, credit that your team deserves.
Who was the head coach of this great team, was it Pedro Segarra or Geno Auriemma? At least the latter delivers great results.
Geno = leader. Pedro = wimp.
Geno = solid organization. Pedro = total mess.
Segarra is crediting himself with bringing UCONN to downtown Hartford. Next step, crediting himself for the basketball championship.
Who needs Duck Boats and a complicated parade route?? Maybe Geno could put Fast Trak Buses and the Bus way to use.
Can you get Segarra out of this parade?
You're right, we don't need Segarra with all his stinky baggage. The Sunday parade should be honoring this great UCONN team, not Hartford filthy and corrupt politicians.
Good luck stopping Segarra and his over inflated ego
My understanding is that this parade is a celebration honoring Geno Auriemma and his winning UConn Women's basketball team. A participation by Segarra will only add a bad taste to this parade.
Geno Auriemma: Winner, winner, winner all the way.
Pedro Segarra: Loser, loser, loser all the way.
Kevin,
if we beg Segarra to stay home during the parade, do you think he will agree? How about paying Segarra to stay home during the parade?
Please note that we're not asking him to stay "Home Alone", Charlie Ortiz could stay with him.
Hey Kevin,, Since they spent "MILLIONS" of dollars renovating Park St just a few years ago, shouldn,t they utilize this fine neighborhood jewel as part of the parade route to show it off to the great citizens of Ct?? Since they paid for most of it ,I think it would be the respectful thing to do. I can see it now,,Mayor Pedro Seggara,in front of El Mercado , on top of the shoulders of one of his "VERY ATTRACTIVE BODYGUARDS" with a BULLHORN congradulating the UCONN womens team!!! They could end the parade with a rally in the South Green Park on Main St!!! (which also received a costly renovation recently,,CANT YOU TELL??) What do you think Kev,,,good idea???
Tomorrow is the parade. Show your love and support to the women's basketball team and when you see Segarra show him what you think about him.
Million spent renovating Park St. Just look to see its shape now. Who's responsible for this?
The only parade Pedro will NOT attend--never mind march in--is the Hartford Veteran's Day parade in November. At least for the past two years, he was nowhere in sight.
What does this tell you about his character? Oh right...he hasn't any.
