IS HPD SERIOUS ABOUT HIRING?

From the "Get Hired Hartford" website:"Join Goodwill, NBC Connecticut and Hot 93.7 for the premiere career expo in the state. Over 70 employers will be on hand to hire for over 5,000 open positions. Job seekers can get their resume reviewed and updated onsite."

Surprisingly, or maybe not so surprisingly, the Hartford Police Department is missing from the list of over sixty employers who will be there next week. Despite the hype and publicity from HPD, I still keep getting calls from people who had made attempts to contact the HPD recruiters either through the website, e-mail or phone and have had no response back.

These recruiting positions almost need a sales type mentality and recruiters that are able to "close" the deal, unless of course the City of Hartford and HPD are not really serious about filling these much needed positions. Even the New York City Department of Corrections is coming to Hartford to recruit according to the list below, but HPD is apparently a no-show. Is it maybe just for show and there is no money to hire cops?

Let's get serious and do some real recruiting before we have a real Public Safety disaster on our hands

There is a lot more to recruiting than sitting in your office studying for the Captain's exam and bragging about your retroactive pay

Hire cops? How are you going to properly bankrupt the city without police and fire budgets that are seriously over drawn from ridiculous ot? It sure appears they are spendind like drunken sailors while claiming there out of money.
Huge budget increases to pd and fire over last 2 budgets
First rule of finance when going broke. Stop spending money
Unless your goal is to be broke.
Heated bus stops???

I would have to go back and check, but I think there were actually cuts to the Police and Fire budgets over the last couple of years, and the reason for a lot of that overtime is because the City has refused to hire and necessary positions still need to be filled, resulting in OT

A bankrupt city hire cops? Why? Do like Camden, New Jersey did and abolish the police department, shut the doors and close HPD down. Camden had the same size force as Hartford. If they can do it, Hartford can do it. Foley could be the new Scot Haney.

Hey Kevin can you look into Hartford Fire Department Chief Freeman trying to eliminate the current Lieutenant list that expires next year because the rest of the candidates on the list are only Latino and White.

Why is chief brian hosting shows on the cbs ? So a deputy chief makin 136k with a big gas eating city suv is better served hosting reality shows instead of helping the city of hartford. Life is good for the fat cats.

I agree 100%, it is demeaning to the position and erodes his credibility. Is Foley still working on his business deal with Channel 3 and Dana?

How is that much different than Captain Thody approving and overseeing contracts with Daigle and Associates and also working for them on the side?

Anonymous said...

Ain't that Thody something! How many bad decisions can a guy make. Underage girls galore, discharging his weapon for kicks, gets a statie fired, and now conflicts of interest with Daigle. Can you please send Brookman tips privately on this. This needs to be exposed. Definitely not AC material.

Webster dictionary defines the word "retarded" as "slow or limited in intellectual development" for out of business 11:20 to say close the police department in the city, it illustrates that that word is perfectly fitting. Life's offensive Mr. Brookman especially when you talk about something that will endanger people's lives. Stop being the manor police we are all adults here.

Where are you getting your Intel from? Cuz it's incorrect. Thanks for the uninformed post. Smh

KEVIN BROOKMAN said...

You are a little vague, what is incorrect? please enlighten us

KEVIN BROOKMAN said...

5:36PM since you are so good at using that little dictionary, I think the word you are looking for is "manner" not "manor". Your version of Webster's dictionary when you were a bully in high school may have found the use of "retarded" as you used it acceptable. It is no longer acceptable to refer to someone as a "retard" no matter what Webster says

YES....close the doors at HPD, what do you not comprehend about that? Camden NJ is just as tough of a city and has equivalent crime in comparison to Hartford. Camden at first laid off half of its PD, 200+ officers, then later completely closed it’s doors. Why do you think Hartford is any different than Camden? Camden did it, Hartford can and should do it. Can’t have all these glamour boys like Foley etc with no money. Shut it down!

Anonymous said...

What I don't comprehend is who you think is going to protect the city? Camden county has a sheriffs department hartford county does not! So I ask you the question, who will keep order in the city? State police can not. They are also understaffed and put four troopers on the road to cover a shift. Out of business please tell me who will protect the people that live in the city and mean well, when the savages that also live here find out there is no police??

Anonymous said...

Was responding to the idiot that stated the PD had an increase in budget the past 2 years.

Anonymous said...

State Police would be forced to cover the city, and they can. Only patrol the city and answer calls, nothing more. A few troopers from each troop based in Hartford could do it easily. CSP does not not as many troopers that they have on the highway. Don’t kid yourself, could easily be done.

I'll be one of the few to actually address Kevin's post. HPD needs to be like other agencies of similar and larger size and have an open ended application period. Thats what Manchester and West Hartford does according to the postc website. Secondly, HPD is stuck in 1990s where police agencies did not have to work all that much in order to attract qualified people but now thanks to a decent economy and the anti police hysteria that has gripped America, agencies are struggling to recruit good people. I think courant did a story on this where one neighboring town saw 70% less applicants in 2016. So Hpd needs to step into 2017 and realize that recruiting is serious business. Last spring, my cousin at ccsu went to their career fair and ccsu brought departments as far away as Texas. The city needs to get serious about this if they want a quality police force

I'm sure Bridgeport PD and New Haven PD both have thier drama and their issues both departments about the same size as Hartford only difference is they don't have a deputy chief who cares more about media coverage and attention more than his own troops and there are no bloggers out there that will air out Only Certain Officers Dirty Laundry with the budget crisis Hartford is in and the constant backstabbing and throwing each other under the bus which seems to be the norm at HPD only a fool or someome desperate would even apply for that job not to mention the local politicians do not back their officers nor city hall or anyone else for that matter considering the stress favoritism racism politics that go on in that place that once golden job is now bronze smh

Anonymous said...

The city is simply not serious about recruiting good cops. You see that in how bronin treats those that risk their lives to protect the citizens of Hartford, how he will not indemnify cops, and how quickly he'll throw cops under the bus when things go south. In light of these facts why would anyone want to police this city? A quick google search shows depts offering bonuses as high as 10k and a city that backs its police. And what ever happened to the 3+ academy classes bronin wanted to run because I zero talk or prep for another academy after the class that just finished.

Anonymous said...

You obviously have zero idea what your talking about. State police could NEVER police the city of hartford. They simply are not capable to do it. Drop the security guard knowledge you obtained over the years working at the mall and stop pretending you know what your talking about

Anonymous said...

Kevin, if Hartford was serious about hiring they would try and seek lateral transfers from other departments.

Anonymous said...

Don’t take it personal brau!!! CSP could easily do your job and are more than capable. Don’t kid yourself. With everyone bailing out, they may have to.

Anonymous said...

Seriously? What officer in their right mind would lateral transfer to a city on the verge of bankruptcy with no safe pension or benefits along with a mayor that doesn’t back his officers? What is the matter with you???

Anonymous said...

@6:47pm they could open a lateral position up but the thing is nobody or at the bare min a tiny number would apply. Say you are an officer from Bridgeport (similar call volume and similar size agency) that just retired or for other reasons want to leave. Its completely illogical as to why lateral to Hartford especially knowing Bridgeport has a higher starting salary than Hartford even for laterals. Even for suburban/rural cops it would be an illogical move because they'd be taking a giant paycut in exchange for more work.

Anonymous said...

Don’t forget lowest pay in comparison to surrounding towns and bound to get worse, having to deal with the worst of the worst criminals. Over 100 officers and counting have got their early pension numbers from the city. Hartford officers are lateraling OUT of this city, NOT in!!! Blame Luke Bronin, he’s destroyed this city.

KEVIN BROOKMAN said...

Be fair, Eddie Perez began the destruction, Pedro Segarra continued it and Luke has kicked it into overdrive.

Anonymous said...

In fairness.....I would take Pedro or even Eddie back over little guy Luke any day.

KEVIN BROOKMAN said...

That is craziness. How about fixing Hartfords corrupt political system instead if of settling for incompetence and start finding decent candidates capable of doing the job?

Anonymous said...

@1125 a proud son of the city - that is who would transfer to Hartford. There is more of us than you think.

Anonymous said...

I just checked policeapp dot com & the POSTC site and jobs for certified officers are PLENTIFUL. Any one of these suburban or rural towns would be lucky to have a Hartford officer in their dept. Think about it, what we do and see in the course of a year or even a month is equivalent to what some of these places do in a decade. A Hartford officer with 6mo on the job has the equivalent level of experience as a 2yr officer in any of the surrounding towns and what funny is the city either doesn't know this or they don't care.

Right lol!
