LONG OVERDUE

Hartford County States Attorney Gail Hardy

This mornings special meeting by the Criminal Justice Commission  into the performance, or more accurately the lack of performance , by Hartford County States Attorney Gail Hardy is long overdue.

Gail Hardy's failure to perform her job points out several problems. The main one being that even though there is a Chief States Attorney, the individual States Attorney's for the Geographical Areas, really don't answer to the Chief States Attorney, and the Chief SA has no direct supervisory accountability or responsibility for them.

Gail Hardy's failure to complete mandated Police Use of Force investigations brought this issue to light. Some of the cases that have been sitting on Gail Hardy's desk collecting dust for almost a decade, according to documents received from the Connecticut State Police pursuant to an FOI request.

There is no excuse for that.

The system to have State's attorneys investigate Use of Force allegations was created to build the Public's trust in the credibility of these incidents. Gail Hardy's actions have done the total opposite.

Instead of people having confidence in the reports, whether good or bad, they must now be suspect.

Most of these incidents appear to be justified, but the delay will only raise more questions. Officers involved in these incidents, as well as the families of  the "victims" deserve a timely conclusion.

To conduct an investigation and then potentially conclude that the actions of an officer were unjustified but the statute of limitations for any accountability has expired will not lead to any greater trust of a system that is often called into question.

It is not fair to the public or the officer's and agencies involved for that cloud of question to remain over the incident for potentially years without Hardy's reports being completed.

Gail Hardy has shown for years that she is out of touch with the communities she serves and continually refuses to accept invitations to community meetings  to interact with the public.

The Legislature needs to look at correcting this antiquated, broken system of States Attorneys  and bring us into the current day Judicial processes that work much better in other states and provide better accountability to the system of Prosecutor's in Connecticut

Few years ago my grandmother was victim to a home invasion which she was hit over the head with a glass vase. Gail Hardy prosecuted the offender. During that time, her office nor her never called my grandmother. My grandmother left 17 messages for Gail and she never called. Then one day we got a call asking us to come to court for the plea deal. The defendant accepted a plea deal for one year in jail and 8 years probation. However since he sat in jail for 13 months, the judge converted it to time serve and he walked out later that day a free man. My grandmother asked why she wasn't involved in the plea deal agreement, and why wasn't her testimony considered when making the plea. Gail never answered her. Turns out this guys lawyer knew Gail very well and she cuts sweet deals for friends in her circles. Also turns out he was looking at 20 years but gets a time served sentence simply because Gail knew this guys attorney. Also turns out 8 months later he does the same thing out of new haven. Hopefully he gets time this time.

Surprise! Surprise! Hardy is gonna skate after not doing her job for over 10yrs. Where can we sign up for that type of job? 6 figure salary, take home car, awesome benefit package, no punishment for not doing your job. Sheesh! It's a friggin Mardi Gras at GA14!

unfortunately the complaint process in CT for attorney miss conduct is completely rigged. They all know it is rigged all the way to the supreme court which recently ruled citizens of the State of CT have no legal right to complain that it is rigged per state statute. So we have a corrupt panel of attorneys who review complaints and regardless of conduct rule in favor of the attorney. Total joke makes the entire system pathetic and unethical.

Affirmative action. What a concept!

That sounds fair. Doesn't it? The people that can determine our fates face no repercussions for their obvious negligence. That system needs a complete overhaul.

11:01 AM ,,,Whether appointed or “electected” ,affirmative action is alive, well and thriving in CT. My INFAMOUS new favorite example is SHAWN WOODEN!!!!! This is the same guy who prioritized “FISCAL STABILITY” in the City of Hartford while he served on the council ,,,, HOW DID HE DO???? Great !!! IDIOT LIBERAL VOTERS APPOINT HIM TO STATE TREASURER!!! I’ve heard that the position of CT’s State Treasurer will always be a person of color while all the top tier postitions in CT government STAY Caucasian . Sorta like CT’s Democratic heads (MOSTLY WHITE) throwing a bone to the black community,,,I’m starting to believe this concept more with Shawn Wooden winning this position.Wooden stepped into Denise Nappier’s dirty high heel shoes!!! This is worth repeating,,,,Nappiier accused Jill Kidik of racism after Kidik ran her plates in 2011 and it came back unregistered and uninsured ,,, GET THIS ,,a few days later Gail P. Hardy made a statement that there were “NO APPARENT VIOLATIONS AND CHARGES SHOULD BE DROPPED” ... Kinda funny Gail P. Hardy found TIME IN HER BUSY SCHEDULE TO MAKE A EXTREMELY QUICK COMMENT..HARTFORD AND CONNECTICUT IS NOTHING MORE THAN A BALTIMORE MARYLAND WITH DEEPER POCKETS!!!!! THE MONEY IS RUNNING OUT,,,WHAT NOW PEOPLE??????

The only reason Gail still has a job is because she plays the race card, simple and basic and that's the truth

Don't forget that she gave her relative who came after Jill like she did something wrong other than her job a high paying job in her office after he retired from bullying other cops at HPD. Everybody knows what denise was doing in that neighborhood. Not a secret just more cover up.

Thody four year contract .
How you like them apples ?

Those apples are fine by me. Not a single Chief was ever made without a handful of cops complaining. It's a no win appointment.

"He's not from Hartford so doesn't get the city. He is from Hartford so he's been tainted and won't be fair. He's from NYC and we aren't NYC. He used to sleep in his cruiser back in the day. He has no street time. He's only been a detective. He's the wrong race." Bla bla bla. Tired of hearing it.

Good luck Chief Thody.

I think you may be putting too much trust into the HPD rumor mill. I know Mayor Bronin is not the best at strategies, but it would be foolish for him to make the decision for a permanent Police Chief without any community input. Even Pedro Segarra went for the community input and eventually named Chief Rovella Chief, but at least the community felt as though they were heard. The success or failure of HPD is far too important to us as residents to not have the chance to identify the best possible candidate and be part of the process.

Morale is too low for Thody to be the guy. That should count for something when the powers that be maybe that decision.

The morale is always low at HPD - doesn’t matter who is chief. You’ve got too many clicks - if you aren’t kissing someone’s ass you aren’t getting anything. Literally & figuratively kissing ass. What these folks don’t get at HPD is everyone is sharing all their personal stories and saving their scandalous texts to use against them- sharing with someone and that someone is sharing it with someone until everyone knows the details. You’ve got patrol supervisors choosing their pick of the liter - basically any officer that says yes sir and takes care of them. You’ve got these folks in traffic that want nothing to do with patrol - well except 1 or 2 newbies still vying for that coveted cushy spot with their sweetie trying to play house. LTs and higher up are blind to everyones games.
How many times has it been said shake it up already and watch these folks really work for their pay & benefits and stop the games.
