GOVERNOR LAMONT, PLEASE PROTECT OUR INVESTMENT

In 2018, the State of Connecticut bailed out the City of Hartford to the apparent amount of $550,000,000 to avoid Hartford falling into Bankruptcy after years of poor management

If Hartford is to stand any chance of rebounding or rebuilding, Hartford needs to get its violent crime problem under control. Shootings and gun violence are running wild in Hartford. Just in the last 24 hours there have been 3 shooting incidents, totaling at least 4 victims . There have been 12 shotspotter activations with over 58 rounds fired.

This violence does not instill confidence in business owners to remain in Hartford or to even consider a move to Hartford. It doesn't sit well with people considering moving to Hartford either to be in such a violent environment. They could move to Chicago if they truly wanted to experience the illegal gun culture

In the meantime, it seems as though Hartford's Mayor Luke Bronin and Police Chief Jason Thody have no plan and are unsure how to deal with the spike. Bronin even went so far as to blame the shootings on Covid-19 this past weekend after he was facing pressure to say something. I doubt very much that he has any evidence or studies at all to back that up, if so, I would love to read them

His comments came Saturday after a hastily called meeting with HPD Commanders.( Sources tell me that Chief Thody was not in attendance at the meeting) Bronin's comments were most likely to make it look like he was doing something  rather than any actual plan to curb the shootings. Most likely because neither Bronin or Thody have a plan. If they did it should have been implemented in early summer, not now after things are already out of control

Governor Lamont, you have the resources at your fingertips to start changing this. Your Public Safety Commissioner Jim Rovella did it once and he has the expertise to do it again. Rovella understands Hartford. Rovella understands the gun culture and violence in Hartford. And the good thing about Rovella he knows how to put egos aside and do what needs to be done. He may not have all the answers , but he is willing to ask others to be part of the effort and get it done.

Rovella did that initially when he was the Chief Inspector for the States Attorneys Office and he was tasked by former Governor Malloy and Chief States Attorney Kevin Kane to "do something about the violence in Hartford". And Rovella did it. He put together a task force comprised of State and Federal Agencies to target Hartford's gun problems several years ago with laser like precision . The results were huge and hundreds of illegal guns as well as criminals were taken off Hartford's streets.

Please give the order again Governor Lamont, do something about the violence in Hartford. People are dying

Kevin I was hoping that you could share this with others. This video made me want to vote for Trump. With all of the political hype that controls mainstream media, this video was a refreshing eye opener. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbozDBM67lY

The shootings and stabbings in Hartford will stop when no plan Thody is back from vacation.

THE CITY OF HARTFORD SHOULD BE BACKED AS THE CAPITAL CITY
BY THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT.Hartford provides numerous
state buildings, museums ,universities, hospitals, and entertainment venues.(WHICH ARE NON TAXABLE)

The city of Hartford provides 2 fantastic HOSPITALS ,ST. FRANCIS AND HARTFORD HOSPITAL
along with Trinity College ( ALL 3 GENERATE A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY )
AND PAY NO TAXES TO THE CITY) THE STATE OF CT SHOULD ADEQUATELY FUND THE PILOT PROGRAM.
THE STATE HAS NEVER ADEQUATELY FUNDED THE PILOT PROGRAM TO REIMBURSE THE CITY. JIMMY ROVELLA RECEIVED A VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE FROM THE CT STATE POLICE TROOPERS UNIION.

Why wouldn’t he be dancing? He gets a fat check for life from the tax payers of the State and now gets another fat check from the tax payers of Hartford. That’s all he cares about! You think crime is bothering him? He leaves that to the fools who follow his lead assigned to the Patrol Division. He’s dancing and Thody’s at a job interview for the Big Win! Money, money, money, money, MONEY!!! $$$$

Where was Thody and Medina last night when 3 Officers were seriously injured? All I see at the scenes where officers are injured are stressed out and defeated supervisors that don’t know what to do. They are tasked with controlling the shootings, but when they allow their officers to pursue the shooters, they lose 2 cruisers and 3 officers are now injured. Now they will get disciplined for allowing their officers to pursue a stolen vehicle where the occupants were shooting at will.
P.S. I’m pretty sure one of the citizens watching from their apartments would’ve played some music so Medina could show off his off beat dance steps. Just make sure there’s no Salsa music, he hates that kind of music.

What we are seeing is the result of "Restorative Justice". It's being peddled as a substitute for discipline in Hartford Schools (thanks Leslie), and the result is a lack of understanding of consequences for inappropriate behaviors. If you want to fix Hartford, it begins with the schools and they have been on a downward spiral since Adamowski came and "fixed" them. It would be nice if you covered the school district's dysfunction once in a while.

You guys keep arguing over this or that Chief. You honestly believe the Chief runs the PD? Sure he gets to decide where a new desk goes or which officer will get an easy assignment but anything that impacts the city is run through the Mayor, city council and city corp. When we get a Chief who doesn't agree with them that Chief gets forced out.

So the impound lot has been broken into three (yes) three times. How does that even happen?

isn"t the Intel commander sitting out there in his lawn chair patrolling the fence line? Probably wearing one brown shoe and one black shoe to match any suit he wears to Compstat

Yo, Thody, I just watched you on TV. What happened to your vacation? Maybe your appearance was from a distance?

Isn’t intelligence supposed to be squared away? Isn’t inteligence supposed to be the tip of the spear and know 90% of what’s going on in the city? Leadership is a trickle down effect. It’s no coincidence that shootings exploded when intel got a new commander. Pia is more than capable to lead 50J. The intel commander should be tranfered to commander of Mozzicato’s pastry. Maybe we can get him a pair of jeans from this century too.

Did Medina really say during the virtual town hall meeting that they have been planning for the current rise in gun violence for months? That would mean that you were actively planning for an unforeseen violent crime rise in October during the summer months. You haven't lied this much since the guardrail coverup. It's the opposite you plan during the off months for the predictable rise during the summer. That was almost as good as blaming COVID.

I monitor Police Dispatch North/South.
Is HPD understaffed?

I'm hearing some Citizens are waiting an hour, sometimes 2, for service.
I understand certain calls receive priority, but waiting 1 or 2 hours is ridiculous.

Is this problem related to Dispatch? I'll hear them assigng a call, and notify the responding Officer that the caller has been waiting an hour.

Anonymous said...

@RB... Everyone is leaving. Those who are still here are going easy to avoid not being backed by command staff and avoid just plain BS.

Anonymous said...

Good morning

Hartford PD Dispatch is badly under supported. Current staff includes retired and experienced dispatchers working on a
Per Diem basis to backfill positions. That’s nuts.

Dispatch personnel are the most “taken for granted” members of the department. Most are outstanding
in how they do their job. Good dispatchers know the city, know the areas they are sending officers too
and experienced dispatch staff can guide the officers and give the the correct info to keep them and
citizens safe.

Dispatch staff are important and must be supported more by the PD Administration.

At 1:39 PM:
My experience with the police on numerous occasions was much longer wait than "an hour, sometimes 2, for service."
I'm not the only one. Some citizens totally give up on calling the police altogether.

Anonymous said...

WTF ,,, When I was with HFD for my 24 year gig the majority of dispatchers sucked! There were only a few standouts that sounded even better as compared to their co-workers . These incompetent hires would routinely relay vague information from the 911 caller , on many occasions post incident the 911 caller would give their account of the exchange with dispatcher and inform us how rudely they were treated and not allowed to provide specifics,,,, some dispatched extremely serious calls in “Spanglish” and God forbid you asked those particularly hard to comprehend dispatchers to repeat a message they would repeat the message in a yell like that would help overcome their broken english ,,, one of my favorite responses from a LT during one of these frustrating back and forths ended with the LT transmitting “ SPEAK ENGLISH” ! ,,,,I don’t know if it’s me but most of them weren’t as rude when assigned to HPD for their shifts?? Anyway nice to read they’re finally getting their shit together.

Million of dollars from the State of Connecticut to save the City of Hartford from a financial disaster is a great idea. It's like free money.

RB said...

It saddens me to hear & see the condition of a great city plummet.

RB said...

Anonymous at 7:28 AM,

Nothing is free. The money used to bail out Hartford came from other cities & towns,
and probably Federal money, which means the entire country helped Hartford.

Financially speaking, Hartford is a microcosm of the state.
Both Hartford & Connecticut spend more than they take in.

Both need to cut the bloat of their employees.
I'm not talking about cutting pay raises, I'm talking about cutting people.

I have seen with my own eyes, 3 City employees sent to fix a mechanical item,
1 person actually fixed it while the other 2 hung around and did nothing.

I'm sure the same thing happens at the State level.

I often ride the Rocky Hill - Glastonbury ferry.
One 4th of July, they were very busy.

For those of you who don't know, it's a 2 man operation.
1 pilots the Tug, the other handles the positioning of the ropes on the barge.
Depending on which direction their traveling, the rope is either at the front or rear of the barge. All he has to do is switch the rope, which already has a noose, so there's no tying involved.

This guy was whining, in front of everybody, what a tough day he was having due to all the ppl taking the ferry.

So, I'm thinking to myself, here's a State employee, that our taxes pay for, getting paid for the day plus OT, at time-and-a-half, or double time, complaining.

No the Sate of Connecticut
owes Hartford the city, for the Pilot Program. Hartford provides 2 incredible Hospitals ST. FRANCIS AND HARTFORD HOSPITAL and don't forget Trinity College all 3 Do not pay taxes to the city. Yet the City provides Police Protection and Numerous Outside People from different towns and cities use all 3 .

The city of Hartford has Numerous State buildings and museums that are tax free.
Hartford must and should be Compensated.

The Capital and legislative offices are located in Hartford ,again tax free. 728 am must really hate the city.If you hate the city that much move To Russia!!. Hartford is the Capital of one of the Richest States in the USA. Don't forget the Parks the City Provides.

9:31 PM ,,, You forgot to mention all the FREELOADERS in Hartford who don’t pay taxes either ,,, CT Social Services annual budget is now 3.5 BILLION DOLLARS! EBT cards, subsidized housing, school lunch programs etc ,,,oh yea ,those hospitals you mentioned ,their emergency rooms are filled with Hartford residents with nonsense medical conditions creating a mess and higher wait times for real emergencies ,, and who pays the medical bill ? WE DO !!! The parks ? Are you shitting me ? Which one do I go to to get murdered ,mugged ,raped, score drugs or go “around the world” for $20 bucks with a crack addicted prostitute ?? Kenny Park, Sigourney Park or maybe South Green??? And to think we taxpayers recently refurbished all of Hartford’s parks in the past 15 years ,,, does anyone else remember that money wasted? Per square foot South Green has to be the biggest waste of money , it’s a pie shaped porta potty . At this point Hartford’s sewage treatment plant smells and looks cleaner than the rest of the city.9:31 PM go find someone that was an adult during the 60’s and 70’s and lived in Hartford ,compared to this 3rd world country Hartford has become it was a Utopia back then. 9:31 PM obviously you don’t know shit but I do when I see and smell it.

Anonymous said...

South Green Park should be eliminated from existence. Since as far back as I can remember that dump is a warehouse for criminal activity
drug dealing, gang activity, a place to freely lose drugs in public, smells of urine everywhere and is a quality of life disaster for everyone
having the misfortune to live or work nearby.

Sigourney Park is a close second in the shithole park Hall of Fame in Hartford as well.

Both are too dangerous for regular citizens to frequent.

Both are criminal gathering spots unsuitable for the general public. The

750 AM

I KNOW A LOW LIFE LIKE YOU. I WORKED THOSE HARTFORD STREETS FOR CLOSE TO 40 YEARS AS A DECORATED STREET COP.

BUSHNELL PARK, KENEY PARK AND GOODWIN PARKS ARE STILL NICE PARKS.

IT IS BECAUSE OF RACISTS LIKE YOU
THAT ARE TRYING TO BRING HARTFORD DOWN.

IF YOU HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT THE CITY
THEN DON'T COMMENT .WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE. HARTFORD MUST BE SUPPORTED BY THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT AND LET TRUMP DO HIS JOB.
USING OBSCENE VULGAR LANGUAGE DOES NOT MAKE YOU A TOUGH GUY. YOU SOUND LIKE SOME ONE WHO COULD NOT PASS THE SEGEANT EXAM.

The parks you mentioned are fine parts of the city. So is Elizabeth Park which is beautiful
in every season.

South Green and Sigourney Park are under patrolled and are insecure. Both have been the
locations of murders, incessant drug dealing, prostitution and other quality of life negatives
as to prevent regular citizens from utilizing them. Too many criminals active in each. They are
dangerous. That’s just a fact.
Any of us who worked in the City as police officers know that no officers anywhere
can compare with the volume of calls and that we worked with the best in the state.Thats
also a fact.

1:52 PM , So if I say CANCER F@#KING SUCKS ,your reply will be ,”if you don’t have something good to say about cancer then don’t comment” ? LOL ,,,,1:52 PM A real street cop would NEVER boast about being “DECORATED” ,,, Also ,if anyone states a negative scenario about Hartford YOU picture people of color related to statement ? LOOKS LIKE YOUR THE RACIST!

Another homicide in Hartford. Last night on Maple avenue.
Anyone counting the number of homicides so far this year? Are Thody and Bronin on vacation?

Anonymous said...

HEY 6:24 NOBODY IS COUNTING NOTHING, HOMICIDES IN HARTFORD OUT OF CONTROL.

Anonymous said...

One homicide in the city is too much.

But to blame a police chief or a mayor for violence by criminals and by people who use violence is crazy.

Blame who is responsible and that is the people committing the crimes. Crooks, criminals, violent offenders
and those with lack of impulse control fit that bill.

The current climate is definitely anti police, anti law enforcement and that is the fault of the mayor, police
administration seen as existing to protect themselves only and a local political structure wanting safety for the
citizens yet always willing to criticize those doing the protecting.

Did we miss yet ANOTHER homicide in Hartford, where else- on Sunday, today, at 13 McKinley St.
How many homicides so far in 2020?

Hartford police are investigating after a man was shot to death Sunday.

Police tweeted that the adult male was shot and killed at 13 McKinley Street just before 5 am.

KEVIN BROOKMAN said...

Yes, and another fatal traffic accident at 2:30am on Locust Street

Anonymous said...

Check how many calls for any police service were received from McKinley Street in the last year, five years etc...
Not too many. The call was received at 5 am. Possibly a domestic.

Not a high crime area.

The person at fault is the criminal who did the crime.

Anonymous said...

7:44 AM, Check how many police service calls were received for incidents on Annawan St in the 60s,,,I was born and raised there and back then not so much a high crime area ,,, a little different now,,, your anolgy is misleading,,, Hartford used to have small pockets of bad areas now it has miniscule pockets of good areas,,, Hartford is too small to be this uncivilized ,,, it is soon going to become Chicago’s mini-me if this keeps up. Nice try 7:44 AM but those of us in the know ,,,, know!

To anonymous 752

Those who say they are in the know usually aren’t. Been that way forever.

Have a nice day

Anonymous said...

7:42 PM Simply put ,, this I KNOW as fact ,,, HARTFORD WAS NOT THAT LONG AGO A RESPECTED CAPITAL CITY WITH REASONABLE AMOUNTS OF CRIME ,,, NOW IT IS FAILING SHITHOLE AND ALL TYPES OF CRIME ARE UP AND NOT MANAGEABLE ,,,,,7:42 PM PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG ON “WHAT I KNOW” I guarantee you either won’t respond or respond with nonsense not related to debate at hand. Hartford is on life support and should request Hospice Care at this point.

Anonymous said...

What is on life support is that there are too many “city employees “ like you that seem to think that use of capital letters will win the argument
while telling other readers what you know. No caps here and that’s what I think of your response.
So I suggest you stick to doing the job for the citizens of the city if you are an officer because regardless
of what you think of the city the residents they are the ones needing help.

No nonsense here.

Have a nice day.
