That is one of the big problems with the Segarra Administration. Everything is a reaction rather than any proactive approach or any vision
Today the catch phrase at DPW, and even with Segarra at his press conference , is "curb to curb"
My posting last night and the attached picture showed that it was apparently was a foreign concept to those entrusted to plowing our streets curb to curd. Here is last night's posting
Asked how the city was responding to complaints of roads still covered in snow from previous storms, Segarra said: "We are doing the best we can with what are successive snow storms. ... We're getting better at doing curb-to-curb [plowing]."
I sure hope we are getting better at it. If not we will all be driving down the double yellow line if we get much more snow.

The only way we are going to see a curb is when we have a couple of days of rain and 50-degree temperatures. Hartford's snow removal is abominable and, every year, the lame excuses multiply. I think it is time for Clark King to admit that his members are inept and an embarassment (as well as a safety threat)to Hartford's residents. Management does not deserve a pass but the people behind the wheels of the trucks just can't (or won't) do the job. Why should they have one?
This is a little of subject, but why are city firefighters out shoveling fire hydrants all day? In my travels through different towns and cities, I haven't seen other firefighters shoveling fire hydrants.
I always believed if you have a fire hydrant in front of your house it was your responsibility to clear the snow. Why in Hartford do people not bother with fire hydrants?
Hartford has more fires than other surrounding communities, I would think that would encourage the cleaning of fire hydrants.
Hartford recently suffered a horrible double fatal fire, imagine if the firefighters had to spend an extra 10 minutes to find and clear a fire hydrant before water could be used to put out the fire?
I would feel awful if my neighbors died because I was too lazy to shovel the fire hydrant in front of my house that not only protects my house, but all of my neighbors too! Just another sign of a city that is slowly circling the drain, nobody cares about anyone else. What a shame.....
Come on Pedro, encourage the people of Hartford to clean their fire hydrants!!!
Tonight it took me 40 minutes to get from Cedar St to Buckingham to charter oak by the Polish home. Why? Because in all their freaking stupidity, the crap city decided to close a street (behind the federal courthouse) so they could remove snow. DURING RUSH HOUR. WTF??? Why couldn't they wait until 6 pm when the area is mostly cleared out? This city's plowing is terrible, and it's leadership is a pathetic joke.
