COUNCIL ACTIONS FOR FEBRUARY 22, 2016

The mayor announced a freeze on all "non essential" hiring to close a $10 million budget shortfall. Notice how he waited until AFTER he appointed a director of the promise zone. Which makes that position either essential or purely political which is why he waited to impose the freeze. And if anyone thinks that position is essential, they must be lapping up some funky kool aid. And by the way, half of the budget shortfall is to cover the $5 million extra the city kicked in for stadium debacle.

I think your facts are distorted dreams. The 10 million shortfall has nothing to do with the stadium. When were the costs occurred, for what items and what specific amounts?

@ Anonymous 8:26 p.m.: The stadium is going to be incurring a $4 million shortfall every year for the next 25 years. Do your homework, please.

Is that true, Mr Brookman?

I am not sure I would characterize it as a "shortfall" but there is a cost for the debt service for constructing the Stadium of at least $4.5 million for the next 25 years.(money we can hardly afford, but money that Mayor Segarra and the previous Council committed us to, for the next 25 years)

Depending on the final cost of the Stadium, that number (debt service) will most likely continue to grow. As far as an operating cost shortfall, I don't know if anyone can estimate those numbers. So much of the original proposal can be classified as smoke and mirrors by Mayor Segarra and his staff, I really can't put any confidence in their projections until we have some real numbers after a year or two of audited operations.

I hope that helps.

By my calculations the 25 year cost will be over 125 million dollars. Not something I'm looking forward adding to my city tax expenses. Tthese types of government initiatives do nothing to promote the common good nor should they be tolerated!

Be sure to thank Pedro Segarra and his Council buddies for the fine condition they left us in
