HARTFORD POLICE FOCUSING ON RECRUITMENT OF CITY RESIDENTS

I think most people would agree that it is important for the Hartford Police Department to more closely resemble the community they serve. To that end, the Hartford Police have begun a campaign to attempt to recruit more City residents to apply for openings at the Hartford Police Department.

Lt. Brian Foley and Sgt. Glendaly Garcia were guests Monday on the "We the People" program on Hartford Public access, Channel 5. The video of that program can be seen below

At least foley remembered not to mention inaccurate crime stats . Crime is down . Oh wait murder is down .

Which numbers are inaccurate? what are the correct numbers?

I think you might have meant Kim Walton. close friend?

Dispatch supervisor! Bullshit! Kim Walton should've been fired along with the other 2 criminals that work in the dispatch center. She shouldn't be allowed in the police department. No one that has been arrested for theft of services has not been able to get their jobs back. Walton used the NCIC computer to run her boyfriend who is a drug dealer and. A murderer. She shouldn't have access to any police information. Peace of shit supervisor

I think this will be a bad idea, look what the fire department has turned into by using "city residents". Hartford just doesn't seem to get it, or maybe I don't!
Hire the highest scoring, most qualified, non felon people you can find.
Who cares what race, color, sex, religion, or where they live matters?
Why is it that just because you live in Hartford, you are a better candidate? I just don't understand the reasoning behind this.
The FD just gave a drivers test, the rumor is that at least half of those who took it failed. Go city residents! I bet they ALL will get promoted however.
Hey PD, you want the drunk from E-14? Imagine him in a cruiser with a gun!

Kevin,How could you be as smart as you are and "connected", not to know that the worst employees on the Hartford Police Dept and Fire Dept are from the city!!!! I've commented on this FACT several times and you refuse to post it and more importantly ,comment on it! Here i go again!!! PLEASE POST THIS!!! The "MAJORITY" of those who abuse alcohol/drugs on the job, involve themselves in criminal activity, advance in positions without being qualified (due to political contacts),use the "Race Card",fake injuries, abuse sick time, dont do their job,etc ,etc. ARE FROM HARTFORD!!!! Kevin, please answer me !!!! What is the benefit from hiring within???

First off, I won't post comments with obvious racial overtones, To generalize ALL Hartford residents the way you do is ignorant . The problem is more with incompetent leadership than it is withe the new employee. For many years city departments, including DPW and Fire have been the dumping ground for politically connected incompetents who needed jobs, HPD is a little tougher because of POST standards for hiring, required by CT law. There are plenty of good Hartford residents across this City, you might want to try to meet some of them to reshape your opinion. If you are afraid to walk through Hartford's neighborhoods, let me know I'll go with you

As far as Kim Walton, if she is related to June Walton...well, there is your answer. As far as HPD just hiring citizens of Hartford, I have to disagree with that, it should be opened to all citizens in Hartford, and surrounding towns, and to the ones that qualify, this has been done before to HFD, and look what happened, nothing but troubled people, and there were plenty of people that lived outside the City that qualified, but were passed over by troubled residents that lived in Hartford, and now the City is stuck with them for another 15 to 20 years. The old saying "You get what you pay for".

I remember back in the '60s the City wanted more Hartford residents, but they couldn't measure up, So the City lowered the standards. How did that work out?

Kevin,REALLY???? Your not gonna post my followup to my 9:38 comment??? I think it would be fair since i'm staying on topic, unlike some of your other contributers!

KEVIN BROOKMAN said...

since you post as Anonymous, I have no idea which "follow up" comment is yours

Kevin,i'll try again .I posted at 9:38 today and you replied at 10:22. Heres my followup..first ,you say you dont post any comments with racial overtones, but state that the city should hire people within to reflect the community. I'm assuming you mean "minorities" ,sounds a little hypicritical to me...next you state that i said "ALL" city hires are abusive to the system,i actually said "THE MAJORITY" are, funniest is next, you said the problem is leadership incompetence.. Kevin, THEY GOT HIRED THAT WAY AND CLIMBED THE POLITICAL LADDER!! Now on to HPD ,you must not have been around for this,,about 10 years ago HPD had a city resident only recruitment class, they had to accept low level felons to make a list of candidates, ask that little bird that talks to you from HPD how that worked out. Lastly , I was born on Annawan St and lived in the city for decades and no ,i'm not "afraid" to walk down the street. In fact substitute "afraid" with DISGUSTED!!!

Why you soooo mad???? Evidently what she was accused wasn't true & the truth came to light that's why she won both her labor board hearing & her trail. The person who wrote that must be a dispatcher and you're mad she's STILL YOUR SUPERVISOR! Glad to hear you know so much about her life. Would love to know what dark secrets you're hiding. Bottom line is ifJennifer Martinez could put in the wrong address for Linnmore St and send the PD NO WHERE CLOSE to where that poor guy was shot and ended up being found DEAD the next morning. Who knows if they had the correct address he might have been found and his life could have been saved. That was cause for hrr to get FIRED but instead she got a suspension. The same goes for Andrew Nichols how do you say N!@#!! Over the patrol radio and don't get fired???? If that isn't racist I don't know what is but what did he get a suspension. Kessler is no better he should have been fired too.

I agree that people should not make blanket statements about Hartford residents. In general, having more police with roots and familial ties to the city can only be a benefit. One of the reasons for contentious relations between the community and police (a part from a history of police brutality in poor minority neighborhoods) is due to lack of social trust. When police aren't integrated (not in the racial sense of the term) into the fibers of the community there's little emotional investment on the part of the officers, which shows itself outwardly to the citizen in day-to-day interactions. "Outsider" police officers, though excellent cops and assets to the city, run the risk of coming off as indifferent toward problems in the city. Discounting Hartford citizens as good candidates because of their so-called character is exactly what will further damage police-community relations. We need trust, cooperation, and genuine community involvement. Let's not distance ourselves further from these communities that are SERVED by the police.

When I Graduated USC 6 years ago the last place I wanted to be a cop was in my hometown Hartford. I got a job in the suburbs..better pay, way better pension benefits, clean streets and nicer residents. I do next to nothing and still collect over 90k a year.

Sounds like your a productive cop in the suburb. Really! I just pray to God your not the midnight cop in my town. Stay right where you are in your little suburb cause we certainly don't need slugs like you protecting our capital city.

I would choose the Queen Green as my back up before asking for your mutual aid zzz!

I can now collect my pension on the side while staying an extra few years here making over a hundred grand while sucking up the overtime and pj's you guys would've been eligible for. I benefit at your expense. Like the old saying goes "Ignorance is bliss".
