IS JUSTICE BLIND AT GA 14? OR JUST DUMB?

On September 15, 2016, after some great police work, Officer Ghami Perez made an arrest in the vandalism and theft of a historic bronze plaque mounted on a statue in Colt's Park. Officer Perez tracked the stolen bronze plaque, which had been damaged during the theft, to a local scrapyard and the thief was identified.

The suspect, Rafael Sanchez was tracked down by Officer Perez and subsequently arrested. Now comes the stunning part.

Apparently on September 15,2017, Sanchez was found guilty and given a 1 year suspended sentence and placed on 2 years probation. Big deal, the typical slap on the wrist and no consequences for destroying a historical plaque and damaging the monument, not one day in jail. And it gets better.

The guilty verdict was accompanied by a Court Order signed by a Judge Omar Williams ordering HPD to turn the plaque over to the accused thief, Sanchez

Yup, you read that right, give the thief the plaque, to Sanchez. What's next in Judge William's courtroom?  Are we going to start giving stolen cars to the thieves who steal them once they plead guilty instead of the actual owner? Or maybe we can start giving stolen guns back to the shooters, that would make about as much sense as this Order.

I can only hope that this is a clerical mistake by a busy Judge who just didn't take the time to actually read the arrest report and it will be corrected quickly.

Otherwise crime really does pay.

I think the BAT is better (and the kitchen is newer), it actually has a bathroom, I think Rendock took the bathroom out of the Command Post. And you can probably do the 2 years probation no problem, but keep in mind, if the Judge realizes you are a cop, you might get 20 or 30 years in jail, only career criminals get the slap on the wrist

They are politically motivated!! So much for impartiality and justice. It's more like a quid-pro-quo environment. A state that cannot even pass a state budget. CT is absolutely disgusting and hopeless to becoming a better state.

I’m sure it’s accurate if the judge signed it. I’m also sure liberal Omar Williams was appointed by Danno Malloy, so what does that tell you?

Sounds like CT to me. Can someone get the biography of Judge Omar Williams?

The more i hear stories like this, the more i admire the Saudi criminal justice system.

Isn't it interesting how this blog posts these stories and the next day the Courant or Channel 30 come up suddenly with the same stories? Thieves, pure and simple.

Hey, 11:52 a.m. Quick question for you: Would you rather the media ignore these issues?

Or would you rather just say the mainstream media ignore stories like these?

Can't have your cake and eat it too, pal.

The Hartford Courant is fake news at it’s best and is failing miserably. Their reporters are bottom feeding scum with their own political and personal agendas, which is obvious in the fake news the report.
I’ll get my Hartford news from Mr. Brookman, rather than jenna and vinny tag team liars.

no need to ignore anything, the events actually did happen, but it might be nice to acknowledge where they are stealing their stories from. But I also realize that the so called "Professional" media don't want to have to acknowledge bloggers and social media.

@12:07 p.m. Please don't lump Vinny Vella in with Jenna Carlesso. As a former reporter, I can tell you that Vinny is the real deal. He doesn't take press releases from city hall, do a little bit of rewriting, and then stick his byline on it. Vinny knows how to dig deeper for the details, and goes way above and beyond what we've come to expect from the Courant. Also, the flow and readability of his pieces, and his leads, are very good. In short, he's a true writer.

I am grateful for your swift assistance in this matter. Everyone related to Colt Park - Friends of Colt Park, Coltsville Heritage Partnership and Coltsville NHP.

Now, for the Order to be corrected. How will I know when and if this happens?

"A court official said Thursday that Williams, amid questions about the decision, froze his order and scheduled the matter for a hearing on Nov. 15." sorry, just noticed this... thanks again.

Kevin, I see you got judge Omar to back down real quick!!! GOOD JOB!! And what a lame excuse he had, but not surprised coming from a lame duck Judge.

Don't know the story or history of Judge Williams but I can only guess what would have happened if Malloy appointed Pedrito Segarrito as judge.

I hope this comment is meant to be humorous or ironic. Saudi law will imprison you for drinking alcohol. Any touching beyond hand holding is punishable by imprisonment. Witchcraft and sorcery carry a harsh sentence. Practicing any religion outside of Islam is prohibited. To disparage any U.S. state's legal system is wrong when the alternatives are ignorance and savagery. We have enough of that already, don't you think?
